I have fairly large hands, very wide. I wear a 13.5 wedding ring. My fingers aren't super long, but longer than most. When I grasp a club with a standard grip, I feel as though I have to hold on for dear life or else I will drop it. I recently switched to a jumbo grip on my putter and was amazed at how much it allowed me to have soft hands. Could switching to a midsize grip give me similar benefits in the rest of my clubs?

Your desire to change has to be greater than your desire to stay the same.

Find a golf shop that does clubfittings and ask if they can measure your hand size, so you will know better if you need bigger grips.  I went through a full club fitting this past December and it turned out I needed a +2 sized grip, which is in the mid-sized range. I ordered my new irons set all with +2 grips.  I have long fingers but didn't realize I needed a bigger club grip.

2011 Goals:
* Improve club-head speed to 90 mph with the driver
* Ensure increased speed does not compromise accuracy
* Prevent overextending on the back-swing (left-arm is bending too much at the top)
* Relax arms initially at address ( too tense)* Play more full rounds (failed from 2010)

i dont wear a glove but it would be XL. i've been playing for 2.5 years, i've had my lie angles adjusted, playing the correct shaft, but never gave a thought about grip size till reading a recent article. needed to replace my grips so i decided to order some midsize pure grips. the difference is huge as far as how loose and free you can hold and maneuver the club while feeling secured. i've gained some yardage and it just feels so much more comfortable.

That's one thing that is pretty simple to roughly figure out for yourself with a ruler or tape measure.

Definitely made a difference for me.  I have long thin fingers and would wear an XL glove just for length in the fingers.  I switched to mid-size and am able to maintain a good hold on the club now with light pressure.  If you have to grip hard, you are tensing up your wrist muscles and that will affect your hinging and unhinging during the swing.

I also have long, thin fingers. (An L/XL glove size depending on the model.) I can play with regular-sized grips, but when I switched to midsize it was a great improvement. I even tried jumbo grips and they felt OK, but I didn't like them nearly as much as the mid-size.

I have a jumbo grip on one of my putters (for wrist stability more than anything) and my favorite grips are Golf Pride New Decade Multi Compounds white in midsize. With bigger hands, midsize is great because you don't have to grip it as hard. For me it makes a world of difference.

I love, love, love, my Winn Lite Oversize grips!

Buy one, put it on your 7 iron and go to the range. You will quickly know whether or not the larger grip is for you. You don't want to have a grip pressure that is too tight or it will inhibit your swing! The old teachers used to say that at the top of your backswing, someone should be able to take the club out of your hands because you are holding it with the pressure of keeping a live bird in your hands.

Sounds like you are squeezing the life out of your current grips.

according to the fitting charts i'm a regular size but i've played my best with midsize.. what i tell all my clients is to try various grip sizes and textures to find what works regardless of some chart.  only YOU know what feels right to YOU.
