Headcovers (Covers) For Irons

I just got a set of face saver plus headcovers for my irons and it came with 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, PW and SW. I also have a Gap Wedge (GW) and Loft Wedge (LW) and there are no headcovers specifically for those wedges. It realy makes me mad that I can't have the correct covers for all of my clubs and XW just doesn't make it for me. Has anyone ever seen headcovers for the odd wedges?

please don't put covers on your irons..they are meant to get banged up like any good instrument or tool. Covering them will just depress you when they evenually get dinged unless you cover them after each shot on the course which we don't want to go there on that as you sound like a nice guy

I like iron covers because they keep my new forged irons looking new. They only slow me down for a whole 2 or 3 seconds. I bought some neoprene ones from Walmart for about $8 and they fit my forged heads perfectly. I do wish an AW cover was included. I tried a neoprene iron cover set from eBay that included the AW cover, but they were a bit too loose, however, they would fit a game improvement iron with no problem though.

I used to use them just because I hated to listen to my clubs clank around in the back of my Jeep or when I carried my bag. I also thought that if I was going to sell my irons soon after buying them that it would keep them in better resale condition. But it was a pain in the ass.

Anywho, when I used them I didn't carry a 3 iron so I used a black Sharpie and blacked out the '3' and put the cover on my gap wedge.

I used to use them as well but realized I looked much cooler without :) Really though they were a pain in the Arse and I agree that the clubs were meant to get that worn look over time. Keeping the clean and the grooves brushed will go a long way. Just my 2 cents. I do not think they make covers for AW or GW

Why the disdain for iron covers?

Lately Ive been considering getting iron covers and Ive read a few old threads on here about that subject and its clear that most people dont use iron covers and dont see a need to.
I guess what I dont understand is why you would put a headcover on a $300-$500 driver, a $200 fairway wood, a $200 hybrid and a $100-$300 putter, but you dont see the need for headcovers for your $700-$1,000 set of irons.
Maybe I just dont get it, but to me it seems kinda silly to have headcovers for all your other clubs but not have them for your irons.
Explain.

As far as i know, it'd be very beneficial if you have iron covers for forged irons because the steel used tends to be softer. Hence they are prone to getting beat up quicker.

And honestly, who cares what other people think. If you want to get yourself iron covers, get'em and F the rest who disagree. You are 100% right about spending the dough for the irons, so you might as well protect them too.

I know i'm going to invest in some when i get my new clubs!

Im just curious as to why people seem to think that iron covers are a waste of money. If someone out there thinks iron covers are stupid, thats cool, but its not going to make me not put headcovers on my irons.

When I see Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Lee Trevino, Chi Chi Rodriguez, Tiger Woods, Padraig Harrington, Paula Creamer . . . well, you get the picture . . . using iron covers, then I'll think about getting some.

If I had em, I'd only use them when they're in the trunk. Putting on a headcover after a driver, 3W, or putt gets annoying as it is.

Weight. Convenience. The fact irons take a beating anyways just ices it. I do cover my driver when in transit to and fro but not when on the course. I probably should as I do have some good wear and tear on the club head and one small crack on the face at the top that isn't growing. Going on 2.5 years though so I'm not too worried about it any longer. I do cover the putter though. That one has to stay purty.

Iron covers trap in moisture so they cause your clubs to rust easy. If you make sure to wipe it off before you put it back you're alright.

Also, it takes a while to fumble around with them in the cart and people just dont wanna deal with that.

If you wanna use them go for it, just make sure you wipe off your clubs and try not to fumble with them

i have covers on all my clubs except my vokey theres notin gleft for it to hit lol...... and when i go over bumps and see that everyones clubs are chattering and smashing together i feel bad for them and good for me cause it aint my clubs

I completly agree. I just bought some brand new Walter Hagen forged irons and need head covers. I played with them for the first time and noticed that the steel was soft and covers were nessary.

When I got my Mizuno irons I quit using headcovers. The Mizuno website recommends against it because the cover trap moisture on the club.

I think my main concern with head covers would be the add. time needed. I prefer spending this time on my preshot routine than to fumble around with these things.

Its true that my Mizuons get dents over the time but that still doesnt convince me personally to use headcovers since i probably just buy new irons when it gets too intense.

how long do you think it takes??? it literally takes me 3 seconds to take the cover off and be at my ball and 1 second when you go to put it back on
