Just wondering for those of you who have made the hybrid swit ch which irons have you replaced with a hybrid and how much difference has it made in your game?

I replaced my 3 and 4 irons with hybrids.  The hybrids are so much easier to hit, they fly high and land soft.  They are great for long approach shots, par 3's, laying up on par 5's, heck I even use them for bump and run shots around the green.

I've got an 18.5* (almost a 5-wood) and also a 4 hybrid.  The 4 hybrid (22*) replaced the 3-iron and I hit it about 10 yards further than my 4-iron.  As noted above, the hybrid is much easier to hit and the higher trajectory is helpful on longer par 3's.

To answer your question, the hybrids certainly help and you'll see the benefit even if you only add one to your bag.

What's in the Bag:
Driver: Taylormade SLDR 12*
3-wood: Taylormade Burner 15*
Hybrid: Taylormade Burner 19*
Irons: Callaway XR

Wedges: Vokey 50*, 54*, 58*
Putter: Scotty Newport Studio

I'm a bogey golfer, and I have an easier time hitting my irons off the ground than hybrids.  I've gone through three different brands of hybrids and dumped them all.  My lowest is Iron is a 4, I have a 21* hybrid which is the only one in my bag, a 4wd, and a Driver. I can hit a hybrid great off a tee, but off the deck my 4 iron is much better and consistent for me...

I carry an 18* hybrid all the time and I have 25* that I carry on occasion if the course is longer.

Q: Are you hitting your hybrid like an iron or a wood?

Best advice I got about hybrids is to hit them like an iron. Changed every thing for me.

Off the tee I probably swing it more like a Wood.  Off the ground, I've gotten shy of it, so it's probably the worse swing I have, who knows what I'm doing with it....

That is great advice, had much better success swinging the hybrid like my irons than a wood.  When I first started hitting hybrids I hated them, could never hit them right, then after changing the swing have gotten pretty accurate.  I try to avoid hitting my hybrids off a tee just to avoid messing my swing up with them.

I've never carried a 3 iron because I've always had a 5 wood.  I recently replaced my 4 iron with a hybrid and it has helped a lot.  I didn't have much confidence with a 4 iron and didn't use it enough to gain confidence.  The hybrid is just all around easier to hit.

I see a lot of this advise ....... AND I don't agree !

There is no standard hybrid, some are like irons and some are like woods ....... some say to hit them with an iron swing (whatever that might be) and some say to hit them with a fairway wood swing (whatever that might be).

Just hit them ..... I about only vary the position of the ball, middle of the stance and attack the ball a bit steepier for a high soft landing ball with a bit more backspin or more forward to off the inside left ankle with a flatter swing for distance.

Hybrids are the in between clubs, which can be handled in several ways AND there is no ONE best way !

My 2H has replaced the 2 iron and at 18 degrees I can carry it 225.  It has put me in better shape on short 4s as I hit the fairway more often than not.  On par 5s it is the go to whenever I am in range.  I just bought the 3H and it will be here soon.  I was a hold-out, but I can't see not having one in the bag.

You're right, 60* wedge is in penalty box for numerous mishit infractions.  Thanks.  If i was a 5.8 HC I'd probably not need them all either, but I never know on a given day which ones will work, so I take them all.

    • Agree. The next omission needs to be that ridiculous team concept. Nobody cares about a team when they really don’t represent anything except being a group of diminished morality and/or washed up pro golfers. Or wait, we’ve also got total nobodies who’ve accomplished nothing who now get a participation trophy! Doesn’t that sound invigorating!
    • LIV moving to 72 holes is a subtle admission that 54 holes was nothing but a joke all along.
    • I was going to start a thread, but this seems like the place.  Yesterday I played my matchplay match at my local club.  My opponent is a notorious sandbagger by reputation.  The pro once pulled his tournament rounds from the past several years and said that it is impossible his tournament rounds are legit based on his handicap. here is what happened last night.  I am getting 4 shots from him.  His current handicap index is 15.3 i shot 45 on the front.   Was down 4 after nine, he had three birdies and shot even par. I was closed out on thirteen, we halved with a bogey.  That bogey put him one over par for his round.   He then took a triple on 14 and then left. As if that wasn’t bad enough, he lied about his score.   I wrote down on my scorecard what the score was.  He put higher values that didn’t affect the outcome of the match to pad his score and apparently make it not look as obvious.   He shot 36 on the front, but claimed 40.  The higher values for his score were in the online scoring app our club uses.  He did it this way: I won #7. He had a 2 foot putt for par that if he made would still lose the hole.   He picked up and said it didn’t matter since I won.  He took a 5 instead of a 4 after picking up a gimme. on #8 his approach shot on this par 4 was 8 inches.  I verbally conceded the putt but I had hit into a hazard.  I finished the hole with a 6.  Instead of birdie he put in for par. on #9, another par 4, his approach was to 18 inches.  I missed my par putt and then knowing how close I verbally conceded the putt.  I missed my bogey putt, he never conceded mine.  Instead of birdie he put down a bogey. He padded his score by 4 shots on the front.  And then did again on 10.  I rinsed one and made 6 on a par 4.  I putted out and he was fishing balls out of the lake so I drove off to the next tee.  He had 15 feet laying two but claimed a 5.     love to know the odds of a 15 handicap being even thru 12 holes on a round of golf.
