Spinal fusion surgery

I had spinal fusion surgery six weeks ago after suffering what the Dr. called a massive rupture of my L5 disc. The rupture was so bad my Dr. took a picture of in the O.R. Anyway, I now have a titanium inpant between my L4 and L5 disc. I can't touch a club, even my putter for another six weeks. Has anyone had this surgery? I'm curious what I can expect once I'm allowed to play again. I know it's going to be a slow process. Any advise?

I just got back from a consult for a 3 stage fusion and was told that it would be 9 months before I could do a full, smooth swing. Sorry dude - the bone has to fuse and get strong - otherwise the fusion could fail. The titanium is just a temporary thing to hold it while the bond fills in. I hope it is different for you.

My son had two rods put in his back either side of his spine to correct severe Scoliosis, Don't know if your Dr. told you or not but make sure you DO NOT take any meds that contain Ibuprofen, apparently it stops the bone from fusing/healing. My son was told to avoid it for at least 12 months until he had full fusion.

Just thought I would share that with you just in case!

Thanks I did know that. The surgery got me to quit smoking, a pipe, after about 40 years of smoking in one form or another. Smoking also impedes the fusion process.
