I played in a reverse mulligan tournament yesterday.  2 man teams each man has 2 reverse mulligans and can call back and nullify their opponents shots.  Then 1 man of the opposing team has to replay the shot.  So here is my story:

My partner and I both tried to really each power up a drive, anyway we are both out of bounds.  He plays a provisional we are now laying 3 on a par 4. We are out 117 yds.   He knocks his 3 feet from the pin.  Best scenario is a bogey.  I knock it in.  The first time I have ever holed out from the fairway.  Our opponents call it back.

My partner rehits and we are in the rough just off the fringe.  We end up making a 6.

while i do think its chiken SH@T to call back someones hole out especially one for par. money one the line changes everything.... nice shot by the way!

Keep it where the mowers go!

That does stink but I would have done the same thing if I was your opponents. Hey look at the positive you hit a heck of a shot and it's just unfortunate you were playing that format.

Play in a tournament with a silly format and you have to expect silly things to happen.   If you don't like it, play real golf.

you know, i really don't think i could make myself call that shot back if you were my opponent.  i have too much appreciation for a good golf shot.  it'd have to be a fairly impressive amount of money on the line, and a scenario like "if we give them that par, we're going to be 2 shots down going to the last hole" for me to say "sorry bud, reverse mulligan."  but it doesn't surprise me that most other people would, and of course, given the format, that was totally their right.

Can't get too upset about goofy tournament rules... Must have felt GREAT to knock it in from 117 man.

We played a tournament once where a team could 'buy' rope by the foot for putting gimmies.  The money went to charity, but it was only $5 a foot.  One team bought 20 feet and ended up hacking their way to the lowest round.  Oh well :/

I wonder if tournament rules permitted them to call back a shot after the hole had technically been completed. Holing out ends the hole, after all.

Unlikely, but it might have been worth a shot. :-)

Congrats on the great shot but I'm not sure how you consider that getting hosed?  After all, your opponents are not going to reverse mulligan a poor shot are they?  So you got a 6 on the hole, nobody can take away your holing out from the fairway!

Looking at this way, it is not like they have unlimited mulligans. 2 for each man is reasonable. If you make a whole bunch of great shots then they can not call back every one of them after they run out of mulligans. It is like the challenge call in the NFL, you have to use the red flag wisely. Great shot by the way.

I don't get this scenario. Partner hits to 3-feet, then you hit a shot from the fairway and hole out. Do you mean they called both shots back?

I am with Sean.  If they call yours back, you have the 3 footer left for bogey.  If they called both of those back it seems like a waste of two mulligans.  I understand calling yours back, but not your playing partners too

Their opponents used both of their reverse mulligans at the same time to recall both excellent shots.  All that means is that they had no more recalls left after that.  It looks like they only gained one stroke for using both recalls.... maybe not the best expenditure they could have found.  I think I'd have used one on the holed shot, then saved the other one for later in the round to try and gain at least one stroke per recall.  There was no guarantee that his partner would make that 3 footer for bogey.

That's what I was thinking. There was no guarantee on that 3-footer. That second reverse mulligan cancelled at most 1 stroke and potentially zero.

I'm with this guy...it's in the hole...seems to be a done deal.  Did the rules allow you to "reverse mulligan" a putt?  Your shot was the equivelant of a putt!

In match play, if a player plays out of turn, the stroke can be recalled even if the ball is holed.  If the stroke is recalled then it's as if it was never made in the first place.  The ball cannot be holed if the stroke never happened.  I would say that the same applies in this rather unusual format.

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
