Can you get 20 yards extra off the tee with a new driver? Wanting yalls opinion, driving around 250, thinkin swing speed is around 95-103... However i am going to get tested tomorrow Wanting yalls thoughts on if a new top of the line driver will help

what driver are you using currently? that would help. if you are using a driver that is 10 years old. you could see some gains from a modern driver.

The difference between an R9 and a new driver isn't much. Β I'm still using the original speed drivers from Cobra, so 6 years old or so now, and I'm still averaging 290 off the tee. Β A more current driver won't change that much. Β Even for a shorter hitter, it wouldn't matter too much.

A better more powerful golf swing is what will get you more distance off the tee. Once you have that, get custom fitted for a driver.

yup. I agree with everyone here. simple answer is that you need to get some more club head speed. maybe you can even change the settings on the r9 to see if you can sneak out a few extra yards

Optimal launch conditions, better smash factor and more clubhead speed are pretty much the things you can work on. The first you probably need a launch monitor or some other device that records speeds and angles to work on. The second is about hitting close to the sweet spot, using impact tape. The last is difficult, without having seen your swing it's hard to tell where you could improve.

Yes . If you have the launch angle , spin and shaft . You can get these data at the fitting centre that have launch monitor. I have the same SS as the OP, and I do gain more distance with my fitted 910D2 with the right shaft.

The first part would be finding a driver that is a good fit for you. Once you do that it's as everyone else said, working on your swing. My driver was killing me last year on the course. Could hit it great on the range but as soon as I got on the course I was slicing it about 180 yards. On the range I was hitting it nice and straight but consistent. Think I have finally figured out how to fix it, but anyway, I still was getting quite a bit of height with it. After working with our local golf pro we decided to try out a much different driver. I was using a Cobra that had a reg flex and was 10.5*. I switched to trying out a Cleveland DST that was a stiff shaft and 9*. Instantly my ball flight was much lower, where I want it and I was hitting it at least 40 yards further. I was hitting my Cobra around 210-220 and the Cleveland I was hitting it a little over 250. That was with no changes to my swing. I still plan to do a lot of work this year to add even more distance but for me, it was just getting a club that better fit me.

Same kind of story for me as awmgolfer.

Last week i was fitted and for my swing, i picked up the new Cleveland 270. I needed the lightest club to maximize

clubhead speed with using regular stiffness. New player and this club definitely

helped with distance. Working on my swing now and picked up some great tips so i expect my game to go up a notch.

Was considering getting a Cobra S3 Max offset but it really was not the best club for me. Especially 'offset'. My slice

issue has been pretty much fixed from my swing (not club).

What kind of shape are you in physically? Even if you work out, how isΒ  your power? Titleist Performance Institute advises that many golfers who work out have decent strength, but come up short on power (explosiveness combined with purposeful motion).

Also, my ball speed was very low... The chart he showed me said i was right on the line to getting a stiff shaft but i was 3/4 through for a regular... Do they make a lighter but better after makret shaft that would fit me better?

Im in very good shape, i squat 250, bench 150, do all sports, and very athletic.... I was swingin 95 today on the machine... Do you think swiching to a superfast this year would increase my distance?

I'm curious what the correlation between benching (and other traditional measures of strength) and distance is in general; I have recently come to the realization that I am quite weak (today's bench was 70 lbs) in these regards. But that's another story for another time. From your description, it sounds like physical condition isn't your issue. Do I think the new driver will increase your distance? Maybe. If your current driver isn't fit for you, and the new one is, I expect to see distance gains for just about anyone. The shaft certainly fits this; which do you have, and what are you looking for in a shaft? Higher or lower launch than your current? If your current fits, and I think you said you have a recent model (R9), you might see a yard or two, but no really massive gains. The next question is: how are you hitting the driver? Are the key power factors present in your swing and at impact? Do you draw, fade, slice, hook, or what?

As WUTiger stated, it's not strength but power / explosiveness.Β  I bench over 250, and leg press 900, but I have a 98mph swing speed.Β  My muscles are strong, but they aren't trained to optimize what's required for high swing speeds.
