Hey guys, I'm going to get getting back into golf soon after a 3 year absence due to a pair of broken wrists and other activities. I golfed an extreme amount during high school, at least 3 days a week for like 6 a year months. I got pretty good and had a lot of fun.

I'm really wanting to get back into it, so next month I plan on getting a new set of clubs for my 20th birthday. I'm not really sure what to expect once I start again. I haven't held a club in so long, I'm hoping I've retained some of my knowledge about everything.

I'm not sure what clubs I'm going to get, so that's why I'm here asking for some help. Ideally, I'd like to spend about $1500 on a complete set, but after looking and adding it up, I think I'm looking more at probably like ~$1800.

I have a couple setup ideas at the moment, but I'm still looking around for options. Here are a few of them.:

----------------------------------------------------------------------

1:

Titleist Mens 910 D2 or D3 Driver

Titleist Mens 910 F or FD 3-Wood

Titleist Mens 910 H Hybrid

Titleist AP1 710 Irons

Titleist Mens Vokey CC Wedge

Odyssey Mens White Ice #3 Putter

$1,830

2:

Taylormade Mens Burner Superfast 2.0 Driver

Taylormade Mens Burner Superfast 2.0 3-Wood

Taylormade Mens Bruner Superfast 2.0 Rescue

Taylormade Mens Burner 2.0 Irons

Taylormade xFT Wedge

Odyssey Mens White Ice #3 Putter

$1590

3.

Taylormade Mens R11 Driver

Taylormade Mens R11 3-Wood

Taylormade Mens Rescue 11

Taylormade Mens Burner 2.0 Irons

Taylormade xFT Wedge

Odyssey Mens White Ice #3 Putter

$1,750

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Those are my main thoughts right now. I'm kinda torn between the Titleists and the R11s, but the Burner 2.0 set is appealing as well due to it's price.

What would you recommend, and are there any other choices I should be looking at?

Thanks,

Coby

I think anyone would be thrilled to have any of the sets you listed.  That being said, have you hit any of the clubs listed?  If you can, hit as many as you can before you decide.  While I'm sure you'll be able to play just fine with any of the aforementioned choices, you may find that you have a personal preference after you hit them.

Good luck and welcome back to the game.

I would go with the Titleist setting but with rather AP2 than AP1. I think they would suit you better. The R11 set- up is also good looking but the burner 2.0 are super-game-improvement irons (aren't they? not sure) so if I were you, I would choose the TaylorMade Tour Preferred. I don't mean the 2011 but the 2009 model. Of course if you feel confident enough you could try the 2011 TP irons.

I agree with the mix and match portion of this response.  Why don't you hit all the clubs that you are interested in and decide which driver, 3 wood, irons, wedges, etc feel best to you.  You might love the TM woods, but dislike their irons.  Why be tied to one brand??

Yeah, I've been reading a lot of good things about the Titleist irons, so maybe Burner 2.0 Driver/3-Wood/Hybrid + Titleist AP1 Irons is the way to go.

Id suggest going to a pro shop and trying as many of those clubs as you can and decide for yourself what you like.  All of them are great choices, its just a matter of finding what YOU like.

I wouldnt be too worried about finding your swing again.  A golf swing is just like riding a bike: once you learn you never forget.

Agree with posts encouraging you to hit them all and go with whatever you prefer. At the end of the day, if you're hitting decent shots and enjoying the game, the difference between spending 1,800 or 1,500 won't ever enter your mind. Go with whatever feels best - brand loyalty is overrated - reality is you can't miss with any of the equipment or combos of those brands that you're looking at. Welcome back and have fun out there!!

Yeah, I'll try to hit some clubs before I decide. I've decided that I'm just going to spend as little as possible while still getting some clubs that I want.

Right now I'm thinking about getting:

Titleist 910 F-d 15* 3-Wood

Titleist 910 H 19* Hybrid

Mizuno MX-300 4-GW Irons

Titleist Vokey 54*

Titleist Vokey 58*

I'm probably going to get them all off of a big reputable eBay golf store, so it should come to around $1100.
