Hey,

I am looking into the TaylorMade r7 draw irons and was wondering what you guys thought of these clubs for a begginner.  I know I need lessons to help develope my swing and that I need to get them fitted to me, but my main question was will these help me now but hurt me in the long run?

Will I get to adjusted to them and the fact that they help swing the club face around quicker that it will hurt my once I switch to a better set of clubs once I get to a lower handi-cap??

Just some thoughts before I pull the trigger on a used set of them.

Thanks guys for all your help and patience with this newbie...

Those are the sticks I use.  I picked them up a couple years ago because they were cheap, and I hit them well.  The draw in their name would imply that they are easier to hit draws with, and while that may be true for some, the actual science behind it has some drawbacks.  For 1 it moves the center of gravity closer to the hosel, which in rality makes them a little harder to hit than the regular R7's.  I think they offset that by making the sole larger, and giving them more offset.  If you are just learning your swing you probably don't want all those compensations built into a club, it could cause bad habits.  I already had bad habits so i figured maybe a club to fix them would be nice.  I would recommend the standard R7's or something like a Callaway X20 or x22.  You can find those around pretty cheap, and they should last you a long time.

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
