I am in the process of looking to buy new irons and i have a few questions. I was wondering if getting fitted for irons is worth the time and money? Also if i were to buy standard clubs could i get the fitted after. I am about an 8 handicap and i am looking at every brand besides Cleveland irons (old ones i disliked).

From what I have heard and read on here you may want to get fitted from the start because the fitting is usually free when buying a new set of irons.

That can depend on where you buy/get fitted.

With the fitting technology out today, I think it's hard not to take advantage of it.

You could, but it would be limited to what they could do and it would costs you just as much in the end if they have to add shaft extensions, etc. If you want new irons and are thinking of getting fitting, you are better off getting fitted from the get-go.

Like the post above mine stated, it is much easier to get them fitted as you purchase them.  Most places will do it for free, or look online for a club demo day at a course or range near you.

As far as buying them and then getting fitted, it all depends on the type of irons you get to see how much you can actually change.  If you get a forged set they will still be able to bend them quite a bit.  However other irons can't be bent quite as much.

Hope this helps.

As far as the irons go with your handicap there are some good choices out there.  The irons that I just ordered feel fantastic (Titleist AP2), but the other irons in that same range would be the Nike pro-combo irons, the Callaway Razr's, as well as a few of Mizunos irons.

Irons: Titleist AP2

Good advice in earlier posts. If you're an 8 HDCP, this means your swing is likely pretty stable. Thus, you should be able to benefit from a full fitting.

If the iron is a current production model, and you can get tweaks or upgrades to the standard irons done at the factory. They make up your "recipe" and ship them to the store. About the only additional cost would be if you wanted $15 grips instead of $6 grips, or you wanted upgrade or "exotic" shafts.

Let's say its a set from a model no longer in production - you take what you get. A few minor tweaks wouldn't cost much, but different shafts would mean a full reshaft job, rather costly. In this case, new model custom-fit clubs from the factory probably wouldn't cost too much more.

Focus, connect and follow through!
