Best Major Tournament

Which Major do you think is the best?
My vote is for "The Masters" It's a tradition like no other!

Masters can't be beat, but I like to see the sheer misery of a U.S. Open with all the complaining and the pro's dropping like flies, and the likelihood of a collapse on the 18th out of exhaustion, the course often wins at a U.S. Open and the pro's are only survivors. The heat, the rough, the length, the slick greens, you know the pro's are feeling the same kind of nervous dread that we do when faced with a tough course, brings them down to earth a bit.

I would have to agree with the U.S. Open. It is so much fun watching them fight the course and the course win. Oh and listening to them complain...I love it. It's like listening to my dad and his friends haha!

The British Open. I love the courses where creativity and shotmaking are rewarded. Things which are really vanishing from the other majors.

I would have to say the Masters is the best, funnest to watch. Truly it's a "tradition like no other" (thanks HoganFan). It's the most beautiful course, too.

But, I'd also have to split my vote with the Brit Open. So much tradition and history. It's just awe-inspiring to think they've been playing that tourney for over 100 years. Amazing!

Tough one. I love the Masters and it kind of represents the start of the [decent] golfing year here in the UK so is always something I look forward to hugely.

However, being somewhat biased, I've got to say the British Open, for a number of reasons;

1) The history. Of course, all the majors have that to a degree, but The Open is the longest running major championship. And it is The Open. Sorry my American friends

2) Continuing the theme, because it's precisely what it says it is - an 'Open'. Theoretically, anyone in the world can enter the qualifying tournaments, progress and ultimately make it to the event itself. One guy from my old club even qualified once. Ok, he did shit, but that's not the point . I'm not sure if US Open qualifying works in the same way, though possibly. Either way, it's a good thing.

3) Links golf, the necessity for shotmaking and the different challenges it presents.

4) Classy trophy.

5) The dull speeches from the staggering old crudsacks at the R&A.;

They are obviously all great, but for me its got to be The Open. The true original.

Being from Georgia, it's gotta be the Masters.

And when you visit Atlanta, not too far from Augusta, don't forget to leave a golf ball at the grave of Bobby Jones.

I like the PGA Championship

The OPEN ( well for anyone American, the "The British Open", yes I am biased having seen about 15 Opens in the last 30 years, and when Tony Jacklin won the Open in 1969, I was only 9 years old and watching it on TV in my house, and that's when I started to take up golf, so no contest for me to say "The Open"

The U.S. Open Championship is the best in all of golf. It's the toughest four days of the year on a consistent basis, and it separates the men from the boys. It's also my favorite of the four majors, so I'm a little partial to it.

It seems like The Masters has become the favorite of most U.S. fans though.

Your right , the US Open and THE Open are probably the toughest, but I think the Masters is the best to watch. The course is hard and probably the nicest, most well maintained course anywhere.

Masters. pristine. its the only reason to have HD. and no commercials. NO ladies allowed. pool table greens, not one blade of grass out of place. amazing.

From the other posts, it seems the PGA gets little respect. I think it is a tough but fair set up, and they always say it has the best field in golf in terms of ranked players from around the world. They are going to great courses for them lately too.

That being said, watching the Masters in early April can't be beat. The whole tradition and ambiance is second to none; I was hooked when I watched Nicklaus win in '86 when I was 16. Getting a high definition TV and watching any of the majors is well worth the money.

Looks like the PGA is the red headed step child.
I would like to see the Memorial be the fourth major as a tribute to Jack Nicklaus!

The British Open, without a doubt. The Masters, it's one of my favorites, but not even in the same class as the British Open. The different shots that they play is amazing and it always allows a player to show off his creativity. And it always seems to produce drama at the end, regardless of the winner. See Ben Curtis and Todd Hamiton.

But, hey, it's still fun to see those 340-yard 2 irons.

The course is also "evolving" in order to fight back the technological advance of players' equipment.
....and how about the greens?!?! I really believe no one beats the Masters.
