Stiff Shaft Drivers - Page 2

If you can hit your 3 wood around 300 yards or your 1 iron 275 yards consistently, there is no reason you need a driver in the bag to get your handicap down to a 3 or 4. I'd assume that you need more help in your short game than trying to get longer off the tee.

Do you pace out your yardages from tee box to the ball to know how far you are hitting your clubs? I'd love to see a video of someone hitting a 1 iron 275 yards. Definitely would be a sight to see.

My driver swing speed is 107, and I can only hit a 300 yd drive in perfect conditions, with my driver. I am right on the edge of a stiff or extra stiff shaft for it. X is 110 plus on the particular  shaft I have.

I have an old 2 iron, that I can hit 220-225 ...... and that is a really nice shot to see for the average mid-capper (of course it can also be bumping along the fairway right from the start ...... g1_wacko.gif )

I am about sure that some of the Pro's hitting 330-340 have a similar swing speed, so you can still improve a bit !!!

Not Really. According to pgatour.com, a couple of the guys who I have similar speed to, Zach Johnson, and Jerry Kelly, only average around 250-255 yds of carry. Their long carry is only 275 and 268, respectively. JB Holmes is the highest average, around 128 mph, and 311 yds of carry.

And I mean not really that the tour swingers that hit 330-340 have my speed, not that I can't still improve. Just to be clear.

The numbers on pgatour.com are total driving distance, not carry. JB hits it 311 with roll on average, Zach hit it 269 total. The average carry on the pgatour was 269 in 2009 I think. The average total distance so far in 2011 is 285 yards.

Well my driver swing speed is 100 mph. A good draw gets me 290-295 yards. I think of my average drive as a 265-270 yard shot. I play a Ping I15 witha a fade bias and a stiff shaft. By the way how many pound/kg to a stone?

I think I need a new driver or something. My swingspeed is 105-110, and I hit it 210 to 250 yards, all measured with rangefinder. f4_glare.gif

I suspect you either need a new driver or better launch conditions. There's more to hitting a long drive than swing speed.

Im not 100% sure on the swing speed but in comparion withothers (who have been tested)  it is above 95!

Above 95 is vague ( and not NEAR enough to hit a 300 yard 3 wood )...to hit a 300 yard 3 wood you'd be sitting around 125ish....about where Tiger is.....so um....yeah.

very highly doubt your swing speed is around 95 and you hit a 3 wood 300yds.

Why is it so hard to believe??

As i said, i am 23, 5'11, 13.7 stone an ex rugby player and can one rep max in bench press is 125kg, therefore by general standards I would be strong.

If I was asking for help and advice on a forum, why the hell would i lie???? To boost my ego in front of people i dont know??

Also i greatly appreciate all of the advice that I am getting.

You realize that strength has no effect on how far you can hit a ball? While it may help a little bit the only thing that could create enough swing speed to hit a 3 wood 300 yards would be extremely fast hands (tour speed). If you swung that fast with a regular shaft you would hit such a massive hook that you would have to aim way right.

Now you're saying you hit a 3 wood 300 yards? Are the fairways where you play composed of concrete or something??

You can say with complete certainty that nobody could hit a 300 yard drive with a regular shafted driver?

Man everyone hits there 3-wood with regular shafts 300 yards consistently on the internet.

As a matter of fact, with my old 3-wood(which coincidentally had a regular shaft), I was EASILY putting em out there 310 when the fairways were running slow and sometimes 350 when the ground hardened up a bit!!!!

Yeah, I know, I'm working on it. Getting fit for a driver in any way soon, I don't like the one I have now, sounds terrible.

What is a bit weird is that I hit my 3 woods as far on a good strike. But OK, this thread is not about me, sorry.

I currently hit my persimmon, hickory shafted 3 wood about 330 average. Do yall think a newer stiff shaft will get me more distance?

Better go X flex, bro! My persimmon was a quaint little thing until I put a high dollar X flex shaft in it. Now avg carry is at least 330. You should see it when I hit it "too pure". Bubba Watson cried himself to sleep after seeing me drive it.
