Thieves aren't really that smart or they wouldn't be robbing from cars.  I had my car (Toyota station wagon) broken into many years ago (about 1980).  They took the $60 tape deck, a half dozen home recorded tapes, and the ash tray with 6 pennies in it.  They ignored the $250 set of Golden Ram clubs which were in plain view in the back.

I bring them into my home office after each round to do my post round cleaning, then they stay in the office until I go to the range or course.

They might not have been entirely stupid: the things they took could easily be thrown into a duffel bag, it'd be more conspicuous trying to escape carrying the clubs.

But, in general, I agree... the smart ones aren't doing smash-and-grabs or pulling the stereos.

What if they steal "your car" which, believe it or not, has happened to me twice.

Funny enough, I can deal with and get over my car being stolen.  I can't however deal with or get over my car being stolen with the clubs in the truck...

There's no market for stereos at all anymore. I bought a Pioneer that didn't end up fitting my car, and I can't even give it away. 

What were we talking about? :-) Oh yeah, clubs. They're in my trunk. It does make me really fear getting rear-ended though. 

Bring mine indoors. Ever since I went to my hometown of Liverpool years ago, with 3 friends and my car got turned over in the hotel car park.

Took everything, 4 sets of clubs plus accessories, but managed to leave me one golf shoe - yes one!

Was supposed to go to Hillside the next day ( a track I've still yet to play) the one on our trip I really wanted to play. Instead had a journey back to Scotland with a smashed passenger window!!!!!

Guess I'm the unlucky one. Had my clubs in the trunk of my car and they got stolen along with everything that was in the car.  Busted out my window and pressed the trunk button.  I lived in an apartment at the time and did not have renters insurance.  Guess what?  Golf clubs are not covered under your car insurance.  They are covered under renter and homers insurance.  If you leave your clubs in your trunk make sure and get renters insurance if you live in an apartment.  It was horrible to see not only my iron set gone, but my Cameron putter, Ping driver, dozen Pro V1 golf balls, golf shoes were in my bag, and the golf bag on top of that.  I went to every pawn shop in town to look for them.  Never found them.  

I keep mine in the basement during the winter but car during the rest of the year.  If I have a chance to play don't want to miss it because my clubs are home.  In the "old days" I worried about the effect of the heat on my grips.  But today's compounds are so much better that I don't really worry anymore.  And, since it really takes a torch to soften epoxy to get a shaft out of a club, I'm not worried about that effect either. 

I guess be happy that there are some dumb thieves.

I never gave it a thought, always kept them in the trunk so If I happen to get out of a meeting early and just happen to be near a golf course (you get the picture). But now that I think about it, I can see how all that built up heat in trunk might do some funky stuff to the equipment.

My club just got a club storage facility (temperature controlled), I think I’ll check it out.

Agreed.  If you are going to worry about anything, worry about your clubs getting stolen vs. the equipment failing due to the heat (which goblue explained won't happen).

My better clubs reside in the house, but I have put together a "junkyard dog" carry set to leave in the trunk on all but the most extreme days.

I bring my clubs in the house with me after every round and clean them (I love my clubs).  Then I usually leave them in posted up in the living room.  My wife is less than thrilled about it, but she knows how much I like them. 

I don't know if very hot/cold weather will damage your clubs, but I've read that golf balls can be "damaged" if left in the trunk in the summertime.  And at $3-4/ball, I'll be keeping mine inside with the clubs.

I can maybe see cold weather affecting some forge irons because of the condensation. it could rust up the clubs.

I do have blades (MP68).  I'm not taking any chances.

Here in St. Louis, summer is in the 90s and sometimes tops 100.

That said, I keep my golf clubs in the trunk of my car. We have a cement parking garage at work, and inside summer temp never tops 80. I keep the clubs with me in case someone wants to play. Also, I can hit balls sometimes on the way home.

My garage is hot, heat would hurt the grips, and there's not much space for the clubs. We're rearranging the house, and our golf stuff will probably end up in a "multipurpose" bedroom for storage.
