I've seen this on other forums too. It just looks like a black 460cc version of the current 425 TP that Taylor Made is going to charge 800 bucks for.

I'm not complaining when the SuperQuad comes out I'll be able to pick up a 425TP for dirt cheap.

TaylorMade was kind enough to next day air my two customer pre-orders and I recieved them yesterday. The club looks great, especially with the black finish. How durable it will be remains to be seen. The clubface measures an honest 1 degree open which is rare for drivers these days.

There is no difference in shafts between the standard TaylorMade TP Rombax and the one in the superquad. It is still a slightly softer tipped and more playable version of the Rombax 7W06 which is a very tip stiff shaft. The difference lies in the MOI numbers. I'm not sure how TaylorMade measured MOI, but the numbers on the superquad are huge. Supposedly better than even the Sumo2 and FT-i. Whether that translates into real world benefits or not, remains to be seen. If you have to have it now, get to a retailer soon and get them to order it, stocks are going way down. But if you want to save some money, wait for the traditionally colored full retail launch in February.

so is it basically a more workable (open face) and black version of the tp? i wonder if any tour players will be using it.

asianpsuation,

It's actually the opposite. The high MOI numbers mean that it should go fairly straight no matter where on the face you are hitting it, much like the FT-i, Sumo2, and Hi-Bore. Not the best for working the ball. The open face is more of a visual appeal benefit, semi-closed face drivers are not any less workable than square or open faced clubs. Working the ball is a product of swing path and face positioning at impact, not a golf club. From what I've been hearing from TaylorMade, more and more tour players are beginning to switch to the R7 460, I think you'll see many of the plain superquads when the Tour hits the mainland again in late January and early February.

I've got one left (9.5 Stiff) if anyone is interested. Supposedly, there are only 3000 produced according to my rep...but who knows? Not every retailer will carry them due to the price, time of year, exclusivity?, etc.

We ordered 6 about 2 weeks ago and already pre-sold 5 of them. Im not sure if I'll be able to order more as my allocation was set to max of 3 (2 stores).

It's definitely a hot driver.

FYI.. ALL TP version drivers are 1/2 degree open.

thanks for the info by workable i meant in terms of a draw bias, and i suppose the open face will tend to promote a more nuetral bias. I'd love to get one but theyre so damn expensive...

Gascan: When you say "full retail launch in February", I assume this will be the regular r7 460 superquad (the non-TP version)? I'm hoping the price will be more in line with what I paid for my current driver $399? Is the release date for the club set? If so, I will wait, as I was seriously looking at the r7 460 (2 weight ports).

Thanks.

GoingfortheGreen,

The Black Superquad was a one time only limited run. The full retail launch will have both a TP and non TP which are right in line with the other drivers on the market (and the TP driver line). The superquad seems to sit right between the R7 425, a low spin and launch head and the R7 460 which is high spin and launch. I think TaylorMade is trying to squeeze the superquad right between the two, and initially I'm not sure if there will be a drop in price on the R7 460, although some retailers may take it upon themselves to drop price in an attempt to dump some product. Either way, I think February - April will be a great time to pick up a new driver since it appears every OEM is coming out with a new driver model.

I wonder if TP is going to make two versions of it: one for the US market and one for the Asian market. In the past, the Asian market version had always got the high COR (illegal) version....

It's out now. The MSRP is $399 for the non TP and the TP version costs $699. Has anyone tried it? How does it compare to r7 460 and r7 425? Oh by the way, the price of r7 460 has dropped $100 to $299, but r7 425 stays the same. Wonder why?

The reason why the 425 is staying at 399.99 is b/c it's staying in the line for 07. The 460 while still in the line for now will no longer be produced...it will be phased out due to the superquad.

Some people cant stand the 460cc heads....the 425 will serve that purpose.
