Paula Creamer at Augusta National

Did she hit golf balls while being there? I know it's a men only club, but does that apply to those being allowed to play the course, or just who's a member? Has a woman ever played the course?

Ah, you missed the argument on the other thread :-)

The short, and I hope non-controversial answer, is that women play the course with regularity.  Any member can bring a guest of his or her choosing to play.  One woman is rumored to be a member (although you'd never get an acknowledgment about a member from the club, male or female).

When I was at the masters in 2007 there was guy sitting next to me during wednesday morning practice rounds. He claimed that they used to have a member who is a doctor in the area and he wasn't much of a golfer but his wife is an avid golfer. He went on to say that the doctor would show up with her as a guest and he would go eat lunch or just leave while she played. They eventually just let her have the membership since he wasn't even playing. This guy also had a story about how he met two of the augusta chairmen at the masters in 1995 and has turned down membership offers on several occasions. I asked why and he said he wasn't from that area and his club is every bit as nice as Augusta. He also had some other wild stories so his credibility was certainly in question.

Pretty sure i'd drive hours to play if i could be a member at augusta. I played with a guy in a university competition a few weeks ago who was on exchange from the states and is a member at Winged Foot. We were all in awe.

Ummm. You mean you would fly in on the corporate jet to play. I doubt that many of the members even drive any more, unless it's to take the Jeep down to the gate to pick up the mail on the day that the butler is off.

Isn't Warren Buffet - wealthier than most - famous (in part) for not doing wasteful and extravagant things?  

I'm guessing (and only guessing) that a) Augusta National doesn't make available their membership roster - other than a few key people (like the ones on TV at the Master's) they are probably a pretty low key crowd, b) most members aren't from Augusta - Atlanta would probably be a "center" for members but probably from around the states (and the world) and c) will allow women in when they get to the top of the membership list (if they haven't already - see guess a)).  Though I did hear that the club rules very strictly prohibit "business talk" at the club.  I'm assuming this is to prevent a law suit from a female based on equal economic opportunity. 

Rumor has it that Sandra Day O'Conner plays at Augusta 5 days a week.

I kind of don't love her.
