I know that this is an opinionated question with no definite answer, but I want to see what everyone thinks. I've had everything from a UST Proforce V2 76 to a Fujikura Speeder for Titleist to the Aldila RIP 70 I play now. I'm just wondering if there's anything better out there.

Better as in higher quality?  No.

Better as in more matched to your swing?  Maybe.

Do I know which one?  No idea.

I know that doesn't sound very informative, but I haven't found any way to find out what a different shaft is going to do until I try it.

I'm talking quality of shaft. I know that different people need different shafts so I'm just looking for quality, or what has worked well for you. It's more of a survey than asking for advice on a purchase.

Are you asking about shafts that are pre-configured with drivers and woods or after-market?  Most shafts that are pre-configured with drivers and woods are not the same shafts you purchase separately.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Okay, I'll try to be specific about my broad scoped request. I know a lot about shafts. I love all the shafts I have in my clubs, so I'm not asking people to fit me for a shaft. I'm asking what your favorite shafts you have used are and why.

I've always like UST's stuff, primarily the V2 and the AXIVCore series. I like the feel, and I've always gotten good results with them. I am tempted to try the Aldila RIP now though. I've hit a few different Diamanas, and liked them, but never wanted to shell out that kinda cash.

I've also always heard good stuff about Graphite Design's shafts, but I've never had the chance to try any of them.

I got a boost switching from an Aldila Voodoo to a Pro Launch Red.  I have no idea about quality of one vs. the other, it's just that the PLR was a better fit for my swing characteristics.

3-wood: Taylormade Burner 15*
Hybrid: Taylormade Burner 19*

I went from a number of shafts. The ones I have benefited from the most are the Diamana Blueboard in my 3 wood and hybrid and of course the RIP Alpha shaft in my 910 D3. Gained about 25 yards consistently with my driver and with my 3wood and hybrid I have gained more accuracy in my shot dispersion. The feel I get from loading these two shafts are great and I won't switch until something can out do these shafts for me.

since most of the responses are likely to come from folks who don't have a clubfitter i'll point out that Wishon shafts are high quality and easier to fit to a particular swing and feel as well as Kent Sports' Platinum line (ever heard of the Alpha C830-2 head?).  Then there's Fujikura, well known in the industry.  A LOT of shafts from the past are still on par in quality with what's on the market today.  Grafalloy, Penley, Aldila, AJ Tech, etc.

in my ten+ years of clubmaking i've hit hundreds of excellent shafts and some of them came from "cheap" companies costing around $15 but sold on the market for upwards of $65.  and no one knew the difference.

    • Hitting some good shots on my golf trip. It's good I can tell when I hit better shots the way I want to swing the ball versus when I use an older swing. Shockingly, the short game has been at worst, not harmful to my game. I am using similar feels to the full swing, in that I try to get my hands down. I've been nipping the ball clean off the turf.
    • I was laid off two months ago. Good severance, a 90 day layoff announcement regulation the company wanted to avoid so technically I'm still on the payroll for a few weeks, and a bunch of banked PTO, so I'm in a great spot and working on a startup idea I've been batting around with my brother for a while. That means I've got time to get to the gym! I'm at like 60-75 minutes 5x a week of strength training, and either a run or a bunch of time playing soccer or tennis with my daughter on the weekends. Stronger than I've been in forever. Up ~5 pounds of (noticeable!) muscle!
