Even since i started trying to have a flat left wrist at impact i have been hitting down on the ball great and getting a lot more distance

but every once in awhile i will hit my shots right by about 10 yards or so. It wont have slice or fade but just start off that way.

I feel like the reason im doing this is because im not getting my wrists through enough so my face is slightly open

Does anyone else have this problem? How do i fix it?

although you're hitting down on the ball, perhaps sometimes you're getting stuck behind your hip and not turning your hips through the shot...keep a little swing thought to make sure as you swing through the shot to 'point the buckle' at the target...(belt buckle, ensuring you get a full turn)....

It could be that when you feel like your wrist is flat it's actually slightly bent.

There's an excellent thread here that may help: http://thesandtrap.com/forum/thread/46237/hogan-s-secret-hinged-left-wrist

Last night i went out for a little bit and hit some shots from about 130 yards away. I think the reason is that i have too much wrist action on the backswing. When i had it in my mind to use a little less wrists i would hit it straight.

Im actually going golfing today so ill see if i fixed it.

My miss is also a push lately. I was at the range today hitting balls and the pro was walking by collecting baskets. He stopped and told me I was bringing the club back to far to the inside and asked if I ever pushed it. I told him I did so he layed a club halfway between my feet and the ball and told me to keep the club head outside of that until the club was parallel to the ground in the backswing. Worked well, still had the odd push but it definetly helped.

I wouldn't mind 10 yards right, I've hit some major league blocks lately. Try like 30-45 yards. My problem is I lock my wrists, feeling more bowed with the lead wrist does the trick for me, although if I do that too much, major hooks. A recipe for army golf.

Steve

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

What is happening to you is that you are swinging on an inside-out path with a club face that is square with your swing path so you hit the ball straight. What you are doing is correct just that your club face is not slightly closed compared to your swing path. Having a flat left wrist, bent right wrist at impact is correct and hitting down on the ball definitely helps to increase distance. Do not change what you are doing just work on club face control. I posted a YouTube link on a different post today which explains perfectly why this happens in case you want something for reference. I have included that link below as well in case you wanted to reference it. It my help you understand your problem even better.
