Hi Guys,

Looking to pick up a new driver, as my current driver has broken. (TM Burner 07)

I haven't been up to date with the new technology and stuff recently and was wondering if you guys would have any input on some drivers or suggestions.

I'm interested in possibly the Titleist 909/910's or i15 and possibly some Cobra's, but was just wondering what you guys think of some of the newer drivers on the market.

Thanks!!

In my bag...

I gotta be honest.. in my opinion the only major development in the past 3 or 4 years is adjustability. If you dont need/want your driver to be super adjustable then just buy and older model that you hit well and feels good to you and save a few bucks.

Thanks for the response.

If adjustability is basically the major changes then I don't see how spending a little more is worth it instead of buying older models like you said. I will definitely think about that.

What do you guys think about the Titleist 909 Series and which version (D, D2, D3) is for what type of player?

Also what about Ping Rapture or i15?

I have a rapture 3 Wood. I like Pings woods, nice classic design and look. Not too hard to hit but also not so focused on forgiveness that it loses distance. I cant comment on Titlist but they have gotten good reviews.

Id probably go find another used 07 burner, i think my local golf store had an 09 burner for about $75 with their 20% discount on used clubs(prob already gone as I write this) sometimes they'll even go lower than that but probably not on something really popular like that.   Im sure you can find a used either 07 or 09 burner for easily under $100 in good shape.

Heres one i found on ebay that might be worth checking out, im assuming from your 10.7 handicap that you probably have high enough swing speed that you need stiff flex shaft.  Looks like a pretty good deal to me if you want to just replace what you already have.  After my previous post i was curious to see what i could find.   Good luck in whatever driver you decide to get.

im in the same position as yourself and am considering the 909s simply because they are good and much cheaper than the newest ones.  the dcomp is 460 cc composite for higher handicappers its the most forgiving and aims to get the ball up high.  the 909 d2 is the intermediate one where its 460cc is still forgiving but allows a bit of workability it has a high launch low spin.  the d3 is for the lower handicappers and tour players.  its smaller with 440 cc and deeper.  its for workability with low to mid launch with low spin.

I've hit the 910d2 and if I had a choice for the latest technology that would be my #1 choice followed by the Burner Superfast 2.0...

If you're looking for older models you can get a Burner Superfast 1.0 anywhere for less ~$150 just about anywhere....

Good luck on your findings....I have the same driver that you broke and I love it..

I'm curious, how/why is your current driver broken?

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

I've hit with the Titleist 910 and I like it.  Too bad even used ones are $220-$250.

Love my R9 Supertri. :) The R11 apparently is slightly improved...

My previous driver was a Titleist 905R. The 909 Series did not get it our of my bag...but the 910 D3 did. Amazing club. Pared with the right shaft, I gained a good 15 yards. The face of the 910 is a lot hotter than the 909.

A friend of mine bought a 909 last year brand new, they do seem a bit overpriced, i think he paid about $300 for it.  He doesnt play very often so I cant really give you much feedback on how it works for him.   My burner 420 i bought for $25 off ebay seems to work for me, i hit it more accurately than any other driver ive ever tried and basically just about as far,  I like how it doesnt have such a long shaft as some of the newer drivers and is easier to control.  My misses are generally getting too quick and hitting it left, the only real problem is i cant hit it to the right when i want to.  It doesnt specify being draw biased but thats how it plays at least for me anyway.

No one really mentioned any of Cobra's new drivers. I personally am a big fan. I think their s2 driver is probably their best (not much changed with the S3 besides a bigger sweet spot). If your looking for good adjustability the S2 driver gives you 3 modes which I think is really all you need: open, closed, and neutral. Take a look the S2 is last season's model so it's a bit cheaper than the current S3 driver

I've hit the i15, I found it really hard to control compared to my Burner. I would stay away unless you are confident you can tame that thing.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I love my R11....... the adjustability has made a big difference for me. I can definately bomb it when I want to, but the biggest thing for me is being able to fit it to my swing. I'm happy hitting it 250 when I'm playing my second shots from the fairway.
