Kicking my buddy's a-- on the last whole by holing a 30 ft. putt! It was only for dinner, but it was worth it. He freaked! Ha ha. It doesn't get any better!

The day my wife realized that the fastest way to get me out of any golf store is to let me buy something

If that doesnt count then it has to be any time I get to golf with my kids or my dad. Maybe one day I will even get them all together and make an awesome foursome.

best golfing moment..getting 15 foot of backspin with a 4 iron from 190 yards with a gallery too...awesome!!!!

best golfing tv moment

John Daly winning the 1995 British Open..didn't he say that he wanted to eat a couple of steaks and a box of chocolates afterwards when interviewed by the BBC??

Close second-Faldo crushing Greg Norman at 1996 US Masters..was absolutlely unbelievable to watch..Greg wilted under the pressure like a sunday morning hacker with a good stableford score!!!!

Third-Brooklyn 1999 Ryder Cup for sheer drama and bad blood between the sides.

Dec. 24th, PGA West Greg Norman Course: they reseed the course for winter grass and it's cart path only for a month, but today they let the carts out on the fairways for the first time. Very few people on the course, felt like we owned it, and the course looked like a million bucks, temp 80*,sky deep blue, grass emerald green, lakes sparkling, scenery breathtaking; I have no memory of what I shot and could care less, it was a stunningly beautiful experience. oh, I do remember hitting a 3 wood off the deck absolutely perfect, felt like a king out there.

Playing with my 9 year old son this past year, his first real 9 holes (after 6 lessons) he chipped one in from about 30 yards out on hole #4. Tough shot, uphill with a 3 foot right to left break. It brought tears to my eyes. He's been playing since he was 5 but this was his first serious round. He shot a 65 with a nine on a par 4 with an island green. Best day of my golf life!

nothing like it, I've had many moments where i just sat back looked around and said to myself, "man i love this game."

par 72, 6500 yards, at a course called SandPiper, Its a beautiful course huge elevation changes, the first 13 holes are like a hike up and down a mountain side and the last 5 are along the river, I was using my dads irons because mine still hadnt come in the mail.. I shot 74 so the day was better than average.. one hole i was just on the fringe lying 3 on a par 4. The chip was no peach, side hill lie, downhill, at least 3 feet of break.. I said to my buddy, "im going to chip this in" so I did. aswell as my 1st and only hole in one, by myself almost dark twilight round of golf after work. I was playing fairly poor untill the par 3 18th, PW from 130 yards over water, one hop hit the pin and dropped. No one saw and i wouldnt have it any other way. Mike Weir winning the 2003 Masters

My best moment was when my son beat me on the back nine by one shot 37-38. Him playing that well with me was better than my two aces and all the great course i've played.

In 1990, I was playing a round in Italy at the Marco Simone C.C. (near Rome)

by myself.

In front of me, there was a foursome of old, rich and snobby club members.

It was during a weekday and usually local rules require smaller group to pass

larger groups.

These guys were not allowing me to pass for any reasons, and, since I look

Asian, they thought I could not speak Italian (I won't put the details of their

comments as I don't want to offend anyone, but let's just say their

comments were far away to be politically correct!)

Anyway, at the sixth hole, because of the design of the course, I ended up

to be right in front of them on the tee box. They looked each other and one

of them said: "what should we do? should we make the "bum" pass?" One of

them looked at me and arrogantly said: "you!....go!"

I raised my hand as a sign of appreciation but I did not say a word and I

acted as I was really a foreigner.

Well, I guess it was frustration of waiting behind or feel for revenge on their

comments, so I concentrated and committed a lot on that driver shot.

When I hit it, I hit it so straight, so hard and so long that they were all

astonished and one of them was mumbling "wow"...

it was an uphill par 4 - 400 yards, and I hit driver and wedge, so

I must have hit a 300+ yard driver!)

After the shot, I looked at them and with a smile I said in perfect Italian:

"The 'Bum'... thanks you all for your generosity!"

I will never forget their embarassed faces....

Well, that was definitely one of my best golf moments ever!

    • Have you looked at Model Local Rule F-9 Relief from Tree Roots in or Close to Fairway?  You could extend this to cover exposed rocks.  The rule is recommended to be used only for areas relatively near the fairway, a player who hits a shot 20 yards in the woods doesn't really deserve relief.   Players can always take Unplayable Ball relief, they're not required to play it from a rock or a root.  Of course, they hate to take the penalty stroke too.
    • I agree with @klineka, you're clearly doing something right.  Its always going to be a bit of a guessing game if you don't have any scoring history.  On the other hand, understanding that it takes only 54 holes to establish an actual handicap, and they have about 6 weeks in which to play and post enough scores, I don't think its at all unreasonable to require them to have an official handicap before they become eligible for prizes.  I don't know how you structure the fees for the series of competitions, but if its possible they'll play with the group without being eligible for prizes, you could consider a way to let them do that without contributing to the prize pool.
    • I run tournaments and want to put in a local rule that allows relief from tree roots and rocks that are not loose impediments. We have some really terrible lies in some of our courses in my area and nobody is getting paid enough to break clubs. Let me know if you think the verbage for this rule makes sense. Local Rule Roots and Rocks You may move your ball from a tree root or buried rock one club length for free relief no closer to the hole. However you may not use this rule to get relief from a tree, bush, boulder, or other foliage hindering your swing. Your only option here is to play it as it lies or take an unplayable for a one stroke penalty.
    • Makes sense.  Like I said, I wouldn't have been upset at their original offer either, and based on the fine print it seems like they've held up their end of the deal.
    • If you've only had to adjust retroactively one time in 8 years and have around 5 people each year without handicaps, that's like 40-50 people total so it sounds like you're doing a pretty good job. I think your questions give enough to go off of. This might be a good way to get new people to actually post a few scores during the 6 weeks leading into the first event. Something like "New members will be eligible for tournament money once they have at least 3 posted rounds in GHIN" or something like that. If they can get 3 rounds in prior to their first event, then they're eligible. If not, they'll soon become eligible after an event or two assuming they play a little bit outside of events.
