Am I the only person left in the world that loves long irons and hates hybrids?

I don't need any help with getting the ball in the air or hitting it solid.  I'd like to buy a new set of irons soon but mizuno has even stopped offering a 2-iron in all their models.  WHAT GIVES!!!  So those of us that play in 20mph or more winds regularly as supposed to just suck it up and hit some big ballooning out of control trajectory shot and live with it?   I can hit a 2-iron plenty high when needed, I don't need to fight a hybrid shooting straight up in the air all day by trying to play some ridiculous shot with a club that obviously isn't supposed to be able to pull it off.  Not everyone plays in calm winds, have the talent to hit a hybrid super low, and some of us don't have a tour van to bend around, inject, change shafts etc... on these ugly and annoying hacker clubs til they work properly.  I can see having a hybrid for firm and non-windy conditions in the bag as a 2 or 3 iron replacement but that is a rare day around here and even then I struggle to control them due to the way high flight.  Will somebody make a hybrid that plays like a 2-iron please, something that those of us with decent swings can use on windy days off the tee...it would be much appreciated.  the lower the trajectory the better, thanks.  Either that or just offer a 2-iron again and at the very least offer steel shafts in these things for those of us who don't need more distance and want to control the ball better.  I'd rather not have to buy a club then turn around and re-shaft it the minute it arrives because the only shafts you offer suck.

end of rant.

its gonna take me some range time to get it completely smoothed out but my newest addition (because I was stupid and didn't get the ping i-10 2 iron when i bought the rest of the set and now can't find one )  is an Adams idea pro black 18 degree hybrid, and so far the good shots are niiiiiiiiiiice.  its got a very nice flight path sometimes low sometimes medium depending on how I connect, but I haven't gotten it to balloon yet.

I know that my handicap is high, but my 3-4 irons are two of my more consistent clubs out of the fairway.  I cannot hit a hybrid to save my soul.

Just guessing...but perhaps because you don't swing them like irons?

I tend to agree...I went to 3-4-5 Hybrids a couple of years ago.  I found I get more exaggerated trajectory as the loft of the hybrid increases.  My irons start at the 4 now and much more consistent trajectory from club to club

Hate hybrids, love my 7 wood.......if I didn't love my 4 and 5 irons so much, I'd probably throw a 9 wood in too...

My hybrids are my go to clubs. Just added a 2h and it is a monster on the course. Preferences differ.. +1 for hybrids for me.

I opted for a hybrid to replace my 2/3/4 irons.  Lightens the bag.

I like both but would rather have my 3 iron than a hybrid.  You have to understand the player base most sets and hybrids are aimed at.  Thats why a 2 iron doesnt come with any sets anymore because most people cant hit them.  Thats why the hybrids are developed and are generally aimed towards higher handicaps who struggle to hit long irons.  They are supposed to be easier to get into the air and to hit out of the rough etc.  You can still get hybrids that replace a 2 iron you can get hybrids all the way up to about 16 degrees I think it is.  You could even get a high kick point shaft in it to keep it low as well.

Hybrids have a larger sweet spot, a higher flightpath and less roll out at the end. To me that makes them a superior club. If you can do fine with an Iron good for you.

When hit properly, I prefer my 4 iron over my 4 hybrid. But for consistency, I leave the 4 iron at home. One of the reasons my handicap is slowly dropping each month.

I'm looking at the mp-68 and mp-63...no 2-iron and those are their clubs with the least help, that was the point.  they don't even offer a 2-iron in their top of the line stuff.

I cannot find a hybrid that can replace a 2-iron as far as playability.  I need 1 degree flat with a relatively high CG, no offset and a DGx100.  The only hybrids i've found that I can order to those specs are the titleist (too high and hard to control) and the taylor made (haven't tried it but the white is annoying and they go higher according to some than the titleists).  I sent adams golf an email to see if I could custom order one and they never even responded.   Nike also doesn't offer lie adjustments.

The lie might not seem like a big deal to some but it is to me as I find I hit a slight pull with them at standard lie which makes their high hook preference even worse.

for the record I have a taylor made rescue TP with 14* loft and an x100.  it wants to hook and I can't bend it flatter or it will break according to everyone i've talked to.

higher the flight = the easier to hit off line and the harder to control in windy conditions (at least in my book)

I understand that recreational golfer need all kinds of help but they make the game a lot more difficult for me.   I've tried a bunch of them too.

Got a couple hybrids rusting in the garage. Can't keep them out of the stratosphere. I can control the flight of my 3 iron just fine, and hit it long enough for now.

Been playing around with a 5 wood, as a 2 iron replacement and can control it pretty well. Use it from the longer tees, dropping my lob. Shorter tees, drop the 5 wood and carry the lob.

I was told that most mizuno hybrids can be lie-adjusted.

For what it's worth, the right hybrid and shaft should help you achieve the results you're looking for.  I currently play a 16 degree with a lower-launching 95g X shaft and can hit this a wide variety of trajectories.

I've tried a bunch of different ones with different x-stiff heavy weight shafts.  My driver and 3w have RIP 80 x-flex in them and i'm not sure I even like having that light of a shaft in my 3 wood yet, thinking about ordering a DG for it actually.  The rip 80's trajectory isn't terrible but it's not quite as controlled as a DG for me and I don't need any extra yards with a 3-wood anyway.

I tried the 910h with the rip 105 x and it wasn't bad but I still felt like it was significantly harder to control than an iron at the end of the day.

I'm pretty sure you can get the Callaway Razr X Tours with the shaft you want, but they don't offer lie adjustment.  Have you tried a 2h with the shaft you specified?

I'm with you 100%. I haven't find a hybrid that I can even hit much less like enough to carry. I'm still gaming a 2-iron, and not a massive oversize cavity back 2-iron either...
