And I am on a quest to put this story in every Nike bag review area and golf forum I can find.


What do you expect? Nike to send you a brand new bag straight out? Dick's offers an extended warranty for this exact reason - you didn't buy it so you don't get to use it...simple

You fixed it yourself for what...$4???

Dumping Tiger would be catastrophic for Nike.

I see no issues with any of the above. Sucks that it broke - but other than that...NBD

I was thinking the same things. It's obvious he wanted a new bag because his complaining got him new shows from Adidas. Some customers just think the vendor is beholden to them forever because they purchased their product. Not saying it's the case here, but often these people are directly responsible themselves for the damage to the product they want replaced.

That is really going over the top. People expect hand outs and everything in their life to be taken care of. Seriously. The time you waste on your 'quest' could be spent doing things that are actually fulfilling. I don't see the problem here.  Dick's clearly offered a 90 day warranty and would sell a longer one.  If you didn't buy the longer warranty, you have no basis to be upset that they don't give it to you for free.

And it sounds like Nike offered to at least evaluate whether to repair the part for you.  That seems more than reasonable to me.  It's nice that another manufacturer was willing to give you a free replacement pair of shoes beyond the warranty period, but I don't see that as a reasonable general expectation.  Again, it sounds like they had a well-established method for obtaining repairs and they expected you to follow it.  Where's the problem?

The funny part was when they wanted him to send the bag to them and he said, "then id have no bag to golf with".  Hilarious.  Its not like a car dealer, they dont have loaner bags to hand out.  Ive been playing golf for 3 years and I have 3 bags, 2 cheapies and an old one my friend just gave me because he bought a new one because the shoulder strap went bad on it and thats the one im using now because i never use those straps anyway, still nicer than my other 2 which are about shot but still usable.   I dont have expensive equipment or bought used clubs off ebay(my putter and driver) so if it breaks ill try to fix it myself or buy something else or use something else I already have.   I bet the extended warranty cost like 5 bucks, bet he'll get that next time.   Expensive lesson learned, hopefully.

Sounds pretty good.    A product long out of warranty, and "all you had to do" was return it and they'd take care of you.   That sounds like pretty decent customer service - kudos to Nike.

That didn't sound so hard.    Things break sometimes, and this sounds like a simple fix.   Hardly worth getting worked up over, and certainly not worth all the crusade to denigrate Nike's customer service.

That's probably good - Nike will actually appreciate that most people who read this will see it for what it really is, a case where they're standing by their product and willing to fix it even though it is long out of warranty.

I'm not a Nike Golf fan, but just reading all this makes me start to think pretty highly of them.

Nike actually has good customer service.

A friend of mine had a pair of 2010 Air Max 360's.  Her air chamber in the sneaker broke, she contacted nike and they said to send them in. About 2 weeks later she got a check from Nike for the full retail value of the shoes (i believe it was $120).  She had had them for almost a year, and didnt pay full price for them.

That sounds like pretty good customer service to me!

We spent a "few thousand dollars" (elliptical) at Dick's in the last couple weeks . And we don't ask for special treatment. They're a frickin' retail store, dude... c'mon. I am friends with guys that work there (in the golf department) and I still don't ask for special treatment.

You don't deserve anything, and I think Nike and Dick's are already doing well to take care of you.

There was a warranty, and then it ran out. What's the problem? If you wanted things like that after 90 days to be covered, you said it yourself- they offer an extended warranty.

I think the point is quality.  You should be able to rely on your equipment.  You spend good money is it too much to ask for it to take on the rigors of use?  How often do you spend money on a golf bag?  I have been using my golf bag for longer than a year.  My golf clubs longer than 20 years.  Aside from the usual wear and tear I expect the best.

Is it too much to expect a manufacturer to stand behind their product?  I mean I had a pair of middle of the line Nike's.  They leak after 3 months.  I have a pair of FJ for longer than a year and they are bone dry.  Needless to say I will never buy Nike Shoes.

For me I want to know there is value in the product I buy that is part of the reason I spend money buying top notch products.  To expect a replacement is when we purchase a name brand product at a premium -- come on $150 is a premium.  You can buy much more inexpensive bags for around $100.  You buy it b/c the name and the quality associated with the name.  Not too much to ask for a replacement on your terms.

It is too much to expect a manufacturer to replace a product out of warranty. If you are not happy with the quality of the product and the return policies of the manufacturer, then buy somoene else's product next time. People demanding that manufacturers replace products on their terms are unreasonable and don't realize if manufacturers' met those type of demands it would drive up the prices on these products and then everyone truly would be paying a "premium".

The OP reminds me of some of the reviews on TripAdvisor, where people give reviews of hotels.  Usually it goes like this:  "We stayed at (   ) Hotel.  When we got there, we found that our room was not to our liking, so we demanded that we be moved to a suite for all of our inconvenience, but the hotel disagreed.  They also refused to comp us for our entire stay.  We will never stay at (   ) Hotel again, because they don't value their customers."

Where is that place? It sounds horrible!

And Nike just lost me as a not very likely potential customer for golf bags with separate putter tubes, that's for sure!!!

Sure, we all want quality equipment, but even the most reliable manufacturers will occasionally let a defect slip through.  Plus, in this case it's hard to be sure that it was even a defect: that component could have been abused for all we know.  I would expect a golf bag to last longer than a year, and if it failed due to a manufacturing defect, I'd at least ask about getting it repaired whether or not in warranty.  Since Nike offered to have a look, it sounds like they did a fair job standing behind the product.

I disagree with your last sentence.  It's not too much to ask for a repair or replacement on reasonable terms.  If you want to get "your terms," you need to do your research beforehand.

Similar situation happened to my brother...non Nike bag, actually a 2010 OGIO Grom stand bag.  He plays every now then, maybe 2x a month.  He bought the bag last year from an Ebay vendor, this spring his back strap broke.  He called OGIO they told him to send it in, 3 days later he received a new 2011 OGIO Grom bag free of charge.

It sounds like Nike was probably going to give the OP a new bag if he was willing to send it in for investigation but opted not to...Oh well, not a huge Nike golf fan anyways..

I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs. 
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
