Hi, I'm hoping to attend the Nissan Open at the Riviera CC between Feb 15-18 07 this year after just purchasing my tickets, but I'm a little concerned as to whether or not I will be allowed into the event due to discrimination. A bit of a stupid reason really, as an ex-golfer, I have grown a beard & sport long hair (rebel) which I plan to keep. Could you guys please tell me whether or not this would be a factor in determining whether or not I will be allowed into watch the event???... Please Reply, Kind Regards.

I will still be smartly dressed as I have kept all my golfing clothes which still hang in the wardrobe.

Look at the guy who just won the Bob Hope.

I doubt long hair or a beard will exclude you from the event.
I remember during my volunteer days at the Pebble Beach Pro Am that volunteers had a dress code, but I swear I saw ZZ Top out there behind the ropes.

don't worry and you don't have to dress up if you don't want to, t-shirts and shorts are cool. as long as you are behaving and not being disruptive nobody will care what you look like. just enjoy the event and location. riviera is way cool.

Shouldn't be a problem I don't think. At the FBR in Phoenix I swear the girls show up with little or no clothes on and they let them right in. Saturday at the FBR 8 in the morning and it looks like a night club.

But girls nearly any where can get away with that.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I enjoyed every minute.

It was a difficult decision, watch golf or get drunk with a bunch of girls. Unfortunately, my wife made that decision for me.

I have been to a number of tournaments and the only restrictions I have ever seen have been safety and decency. There is often boilerplate lanquage that they retain the right to exclude people for reason. The only times I have ever seen someone denied entrance was drunkeness, bare feet, and one guy who had no shirt and a Dr. Suess hat (really tall). They offered him a T shirt and offered to keep the hat until he was ready to leave, but he made a stink and they refused to honor his tickets.

I went to the Memorial Tournament 2 yrs ago and you were not allowed to bring cell phones (this is catching on everywhere) but something I thought was stupid was you could only have a folding chair without arms and could not bring the sleeve that it stores in, it had to be out in the open. It's kinda hard to carry those chairs around without the sleeve. Most people have the kind with the arms and cupholders.
I have since purchased 2 golf tournament seats that are just a cane with a flip up seat on the top. Easy to transport but it looks as though your sitting with a stick up your butt.

Dress how you want as long as it's not vulgar. main thing is to wear comfortable shoes.\, sandels usually don't work out well on the feet after a few hours.

The 84 Lumber Classic (RIP) also had the same deal on folding chairs (and cell phones). But a year or two earlier, the Senior PGA held in Ligonier did allow fans to bring in their folding chairs in the carrying sleeve.

We run a Nationwide tourney every year at my club, I asked my boss (head pro) if we saw someone in jeans or anything that was against "club policy" ? He said no because it's a public event. And I believe thats for every event, not just ours because the PGA rep was in the meeting as well, and said that wouldn't be the best representation of the tour to be kicking people out.

    • I've played Bali Hai, Bear's Best and Painted Desert. I enjoyed Bali Hai the most--course was in great shape, friendly staff and got paired in a great group. Bear's Best greens were very fast, didn't hold the ball well (I normally have enough spin to stop the ball after 1-2 hops).  The sand was different on many holes. Some were even dark sand (recreation of holes from Hawaii). Unfortunately I was single and paired with a local "member" who only played the front 9.  We were stuck behind a slow 4-some who wouldn't let me through even when the local left. Painted Desert was decent, just a bit far from the Strip where we were staying.

    • Honestly, unless there's something about that rough there that makes it abnormally penal or a lost ball likely, this might be the play. I don't know how the mystrategy cone works, but per LSW, you don't use every shot for your shot zones. In that scatter plot, you have no balls in the bunker, and 1 in the penalty area. The median outcome seems to be a 50 yard pitch. Even if you aren't great from 50 yards, you're better off there than in a fairway bunker or the penalty area on the right of the fairway. It could also be a strategy you keep in your back pocket if you need to make up ground. Maybe this is a higher average score with driver, but better chance at a birdie. Maybe you are hitting your driver well and feel comfortable with letting one rip.  I get not wanting to wait and not wanting to endanger people on the tee, but in a tournament, I think I value playing for score more than waiting. I don't value that over hurting people, but you can always yell fore 😆 Only thing I would say is I'm not sure whether that cone is the best representation of the strategy (see my comment above about LSW's shot zones). To me, it looks like a 4 iron where you're aiming closer to the bunker might be the play. You have a lot of shots out to the right and only a few to the left. Obviously, I don't know where you are aiming (and this is a limitation of MyStrategy), but it seems like most of your 4 iron shots are right. You have 2 in the bunker but aiming a bit closer to the bunker won't bring more of your shots into the bunker. It does bring a few away from the penalty area on the right.  This could also depend on how severe the penalties are for missing the green. Do you need to be closer to avoid issues around the green?  It's not a bad strategy to hit 6 iron off the tee, be in the fairway, and have 150ish in. I'm probably overthinking this.
