Hi

Generally Nickent is a cheap brand for players who have hit hard times and cant afford a decent club (for decent read Ping, Callaway or Titleist). I am sorry that you have had to resort to such cheap tat and can only hope that at some point in the future you fall on better financial times.

All the best

Couldn't disagree more.

Yes Nickent went out of business (although has been reborn after being bought by Dick's), in part due to their commitment to a then cutting-edge idea of an adjustable driver.  People panned the idea when first introduced; now many/most premium drivers from the "decent" companies (to quote Edgey) are adjustable.

In my opinion, the Evolver 4Dx is a great driver, and if you search this forum you will find plenty of posts with much love for it--especially as you can still find it at various clearance shops or on Ebay for less than $100.  If you only think a $300+ driver is a good one, you are wrong.

Driver: Cleveland Classic 270, 10.5*
Fairway Woods: Adams Speedline LP (3 & 5)
Hybrids: Wilson Staff Fybrids 21*, 24*, UST V2 stiff
Irons: Callaway X-20 Tour, 5-PW, Rifle Project-X (flighted) 6.0
Wedges: Cleveland CG15 DSG 52* & 58* +/- 56* Niblick

Putter: Yes! Amy

I switched from an r9 to this driver a couple months ago.  As long as my driver swing is ok that day this club plays very nice.  I currently have the 12.5* with UST V2 ProForce senior flex shaft (swing speed 82mph).  With my slower swing I prefer this driver over the r9 10.5* reg flex Aldila Re-Ax (hit all low liners with the r9).

Just watch because they make different versions so read the fine print when buying online:

4dx (Glued shaft)

4dx Evolver (can swap out shafts as long as you have a Nickent evolver hossel; not adjustable) - this is the version I have.

4dx Evolver CYG (adjustable hossel)

I think the club looks really nice; the green finish is nice.  Headcover is sharp too.

If you want to convert the Evolver to the CYG you can buy the adjustable hossel on ebay for about $25-30

Probably one of the best bargains out there right now as far as an adjustable driver goes.

Driver: Ping G25

3w - Ping K15

3h - TEE Trilogy

4h - TEE Trilogy

5h - TEE Trilogy

Irons: Ping G25 6-LW

Putter: Odyssey White Ice D.A.R.T
Bag: Nike SQ Tour

Optics: Bushnell Tour V2 Slope

Shoes: True Linkswear

Maybe he has a family and a mortage! Not all  members of this forum live in their parents basement!!!  Nickent made a well designed and quality manufactured golf club. I am sure Taylor Made is upset you didn't include them in your list of quality golf clubs.

I really like my 4DX Evolver and Rockbottom has/had them on sale recently for 49.99. I bought mine last year for $57 from Rockbottom golf. 10.5° with a stiff UST Proforce V2 shaft.

I have an Evolver coming from Rock Bottom Golf. It has the Cyg hosel. I have read elsewhere that you would need to tip the shaft you plan to use by 1/2" (about one flex) due to the configuration of the hosel. I was planning to use a shaft that doesn't get tipped.

Is this correct? Is the other (plastic) hosel the same, as far as the tipping?

If I decide to go with the tipping, I guess I would need to go with an A flex before the tipping to get the installed shaft to regular.

Thanks for you expertise.

I have been playing the Nickent Evolver for the last year and love it. I have 3 shafts, all with the CYG hosel which gives me lots of options. As far as cost. I have about three other drivers that cost me a hell of a lot more than the Nickent but that don't make them any better.

4dx was ages ahead of its time. Its not quite 460 cc, it adjustable, nice classic look, and strikes a good balance between performance and forgiveness. One of my favorite clubs.

nickent.gif4DX Evolver Driver, ping.gif Rapture 3 Wood, taylormade.gif Burner 08 5 Wood, nickent.gif 3DX RC 3-4 & 5DX 5 Hybrid,
nickent.gif 6-PW 3DX Hybrid Irons, cleveland.gif High Bore 09 GW-SW, touredge.gif 60* Wedge, maxfli.gif Revolution Blade Insert Putter

Yes I'm Aware That's 16 Clubs!

This days one can put a "brick" on the end of a good shaft and there be a very little (distance, dispersion) difference between the bricked and a non bricked driver. I do not play Nickent driver (Razr)but I do believe it can beat 910 Titleist with a made for (a standard) shaft.

I just ordered the Nickent 4DX Evolver from Rock Bottom Golf .  I've been wanting to try a driver with a Stiff shaft and I figure for $49 it was worth a shot.  I had a choice between the UST SR3 and Pershing shafts - I chose the Pershing only because some of the UST reviews were so-so.  I'll be sure to post my thoughts here after I try it out (1-6 days shipping).

In my  bag:

 Diablo Octane Tour 9.5, 18  -  6DT 19 (3I Hybrid) -

 Diablo Forged Irons 5-PW -  Tom Watson wedges 52,56,60 - 64 (generic)

 D.A.R.T. Belly Putter

 B330-RX Balls

I retired in 2007 at the age of 52 and play golf everyday. And play with a Nickent driver. Yeah, I'll take my miserable life over most. :)

As I mentioned in the other Nickent thread, I just received an Evolver with a Pershing shaft. Played this morning and had my best round of the year.(putted well for a change) Shot a 3 under 69 and drove the ball well. I hit a natural draw(sometimes a wicked hook) and this club enabled me to hit the draw I like. Sweet spot to sweet spot I think I gained 5-10 yards over my old one. Miss-hits went about the same distance. Overall very pleased.

Funny, I ordered the same combination. I ordered the stiff Pershing. It was supposed to come with a cyg hosel and wrench. I called them on the wrench, and just received it yesterday. Unfortunately, while undoing the head with the wrench, I noticed that the hosel is not a cyg hosel (with the various adjustments). So, like me, you probably will not be able to make any of the 26 adjustments the cyg hosel brings to the table. But, I have a couple of cyg hosels on order from Ebay.

I wasn't expecting mine to come with the cyg hosel. It did come with the wrench. But like you, I do have a cyg hosel on order. I thought I would use it with another shaft, perhaps a Harrison Saga.

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
