Hey guys,

I'd like to get your opinion on the best set of irons to purchase for my dad. Quick background:

 • 55 years old
 • Currently plays the Tommy Armour 845s (steel shaft) - definitely the wrong shaft, IMO
 • Shoots in the low to mid 90s
 • Hits his shots fairly straight, but short distance is a big issue
 • Swing speed on the "slower" side - driver SS is prob around high 80s to low 90s
 • Biggest desire from new iron set is increase of distance

Which irons would you guys recommend that he tries out? I plan to get him fitted for the proper shaft (most likely graphite) for the new set as well. Let me know where I should start looking. Thanks in advance for your help!

Thanks for the heads up. Is the regular known to have more distance? If so, do you know the draw back from the Pro? Thanks.

Have you looked at the Taylormade Burner Superlauch irons?  I saw you had the 2.0's listed.

I bought the Superlaunch irons and love them.  I'm getting about 10-15 yards more per iron with them.  They are very forgiving clubs too.

They are also 1/2 the price of the 2.0 Burners

I haven't hit any of the sets listed, but I vote Burner 2.0 because I did play the original Burners for three or four months. They were very forgiving and a confidence booster because they're lofted about a club stronger than normal. The only thing I didn't like was the kind of bulky look at address.

The Pros are great irons, would be my choice if I was purchasing a brand new set.  But I'm around a 6 or 7 handicap-the regular JPX 800s are more forgiving than the Pros, 1* stronger, and the face is hotter.  Sounds like all the qualities you/your dad are looking for.  They're also $100 cheaper than the Pros.
I switched last year from 845s to mizuno mx. 300's ( similar to jpx pro) and if anything I hit the 845s longer. I would give ap1's the nod because I think they offer the best combination of appearance and performance. Jpx pro's probably beat them on looks and feel, but won't be nearly as forgiving as the titleists (based on my mx's and maltby's mpg ratings).
