I don't mind walking but almost nobody around here walks so I don't either.

On a day when I'm not working I probably get the same amount of exercise whether I ride or whether I walk anyway because I only care to walk one round before it starts to feel more like work than play.

In a cart I am likely to still be playing and having fun after multiple rounds (if I'm with some other people that want to play all day like I do). Sometimes I play with one group in the morning, another group around noon, and another group after that until it gets too dark.

I was a die hard traditionalist walking golfer for many years.................

From the beginning:  I paid to play each time I teed it up.  Hell yes...I am walking!...it's for the tradition of the game dammit...carts are a sin!.  A few years later I joined private clubs where carts were extra, but the cart fee had nothing to do with anything because..........I LIKE TO WALK!

Then I joined a club that included carts with the membership...........somehow I suddenly changed my tune! LOL........ I've been riding ever since...Just saying.

Of course the cart fee had nothing to do with it:whistle:

In my experience if the cart is included, fewer than 5% opt to hoof it. I do know a few guys that do, but they are the rare exception.

While my experience was not with club memberships, I was in the same place as you were.  I really did like walking, and I was as convinced as many of the responders here that that I was a better player when walking.  Then when foot trouble made it necessary for me to ride more often, I found out that it's no different from anything else.  You just have to get used to a different flow.

The overall pace is really about the same - I just needed to adjust to a slightly different ebb and flow in the way I moved from shot to shot.  It didn't make a bit of difference in how well or  poorly I scored.  In fact I believe that I actually was more consistent from first hole to last on those scorching hot days in midsummer, especially as I passed my mid forties.  Whether pushing or carrying, that bag seemed to get a lot heavier by the middle of the back nine.
