Where do waste the most shots? Bad swings can happen anywhere, but what part of the game hurts you the most?

Mine would be a close call between long approach shots and the mental game. I would say that mentally I will have a few lapses per round and they always seem to inflate the score. I don't have as many long approach shots per round so I'll go mental.

The distances are more subjective than anything. I also sepperated putting and chipping. I am a reasonably good putter, but I can be a total spaz when chipping.

Mine would be driver and the long approach. Often off the tee I have found I could have thrown the ball farther. I am much better with the 5-9 irons. Putting is decent. Don't really remember a large amount of 3 putts if any.

I know some will laugh but as a kid I lived on minature golf courses - putt 5-6 hours a day, 4 days a week and a putter doesn't scare you much :)

I am the most nervous on the tee and I think that kills my game. Plus I would do well to tie a rope from my nose to belt as I lift my head a lot (so they tell me)

Can I pick two?

My short game is just..... not good... it's not horrible, but i DEFINITELY waste lots of shots on the green and mostly chipping... I almost always over shoot the pin when i'm chipping...

Medium distance approach shots.
I hit them solid, with good feel, But I keep missing the GREEN!
I usually missed to the right.

Give me 180-210 from the green, and I am there.

I put the middle distances. I usually only use my driver 1 to 2 times a round soit does not hurt me that much, where as I hit alot of bad shots with my longer irons 3/4 and 5 iron too.

Almost anywhere between tee and green, but I figure I should at least get on about two-thirds of the time from the middle distances. And I don't. I should get on from short approach range 80 - 90 percent of the time....and I don't.

Whenever I don't get on, I figure I should be able to get up and down ........well.....sometimes.

There are a lot of places to lose strokes.

I score well if im putting well and thats the same for everyone. I dont throw away alot of shots if you're playing to make pars cuz i usually do that pretty well. I throw away good chance's to make birdie after ive cracked a drive 275 down the pipe and im left with 105 yard sand wedge and i pull it dead left or chunk because the fairway is pure mud from winter rains. Or if i do hit a good shot i miss the putt. Im not a bad putter but i just cant seem to make it when it counts. Those 2 things are what keep me from shooting even or below par.

I waste so many points on the green it is ugly and annoying!

The first Putt always comes up short, the second in response a little bit longer but not on the perfect line and the third is always a 5-10 inch putt that drops, but that means: Par? Not with me

I am more the bogey/double bogey player.

But my long irons are 3-4 are perfect so I dont care about the rest

I waste too many shots around the green; I'd like to turn 3 shots into two more often from about 10-15 yards; if I do that I'll shoot mid-70s more often.

I waste a ton of shots on the greens. I was looking at my stats so far this year. In the 12 rounds I have recorded in 2007 I have hit 71% of the fairways and 74% of the GIR. Pretty darn good if I say so myself. But I am averaging 35.3 Putts per round. My scoring average is 74.1. So I don't waste many shots from tee to green, and my chipping is decent, but my putting is atrocious. I have only had one round out of the 12 without a 3 putt and I have 4 putted twice. I worked very hard in the fall on my ballstriking and it has paid off. But it also has now shown me where I am lacking.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I am short of the tee so I have to hit a lot of medium and long irons into par fours. I don't mind if I miss so much but I seem to miss in the worst possible spot, downhill chip, bunker no green to the pin etc. Althouth it is not where I waste the most shots, I feel the most frustrating miss is an easy pitch or chip that goes badly. The one time I can get really get .

My chipping has been atrocious lately. I've bladed more shots across the green in the last two months than I care to talk about. I've knuckled down and started putting in the time around the practice green which seems to be helping. I hate having an up-and-down to save par turn into a double bogey because of stupid mistakes like that.

I am the king of blowing a good shot by following up with a turd. I will bomb a drive and then skull/chunk/pull/shank my wedge. In my league last season, three weeks in a row I hit a drive of 280+ into the fairway on the same hole. All three weeks I proceeded to butcher the hole with less than 50 yards to the pin. The best part was that I did it three completely different ways. First it was the chunk that didn't advance 5 yards. The next time was the skull that flew over the green and out of play. Finally it was the push that went long and right, again out of play. I figured it out the following week when I hit a worm burning drive about 175. I followed it up with a 7 Iron to 10 feet and rolled it in for birdie.

I chose the mental, I think I get tired the last three or four holes and make stupid mistakes and that can really mess up a good round. have to bring more food with me I guess. lol

Putting - If you hit a bad shot into the green then you can make it up by good pitch for par. But if you hit a bad putt you cannot make that shot back up!
Golf is a game whose aim is to hit a very small ball into an even smaller hole, with weapons singularly ill-designed for the purpose.

    • I agree with @pganapathy about removing some clubs. I would recommend removing the 2, 3, 4 and 5 irons for now. Play with Driver 3W 5W 3H 5H 6 iron 7 iron 8 iron 9 iron PW ( you don’t have listed) 52 56 Putter Th 60 wedge can be difficult for new players, but you could keep that If your 3H is adjustable, increased the loft to be more like a 4H. Play with these on course and see if you can get a feel of the actual yardages for each club and especially the gaps between them. It may take 10 or more rounds. A par 3 course is helpful for determining the gaps in the irons and some woods too. A device like a Shot Scope H4 can really help give you your actual yardage on course.

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
