Single digit handicapper and I didn't know it

Now before I get bashed or anything, I think that his has to be wrong or bull crap or something like that .

The 22.1 in my name was calculated 2 years ago when breaking 100 was quite a feat for me.

Anyways I had surgery on my leg in may so i have not been golfing very many times this year.  Anyways i decided to take my score cards this year and enter them into a handicap calculator online.  Long story short after I entered them i get 8.9 shot back at me.  I figured this was wrong so I reentered and again got 8.9.  So i gave up on that sight and went to another and got a 8.8888889 shot back at me.

Im guessing the error is that i have not had 20 rounds this year.  But what is even weirder is I am not scoring as low as I did at the end of last season.

My best score this year is a 40 on a par 35 (9 holes) 72.1 121 slope course .

And in my last 10 rounds of last season I know i had at least 2 40s and a 3 or four 41s and 42s, and my 18 hole rounds that i did i know i had a 86 and an 88.

So  if with these numbers I am considered a single digit capper then i have lost all respect for the handicap system.

With those scores you are definitely not considered a 20+ handicap, that's for sure

If those sites say 8.9 - then that's what your handicap is.

It all depends on the slope and rating of your course. I shot a 76 at my home course (Par 71) from the tips and the differential was a 2.3....

For pure interest (and boredom) I decided to work out my USGA handicap. I came out with 7.8 which is 1.4 lower than my current GUI handicap of 9.2. Surprising there isn't the same way to work out handicaps worldwide.

Can someone explain to me what the slope rating actually is and how it's calculated? I know my home course is 123 but we don't use it in Ireland for handicap calculations.

The higher the slope, the harder the course.

123 is relatively easy. I can not believe you do not use it for handicap calculations.....how is your handicap calculation made in Ireland?

Ours is calculated by:

(Gross Score - ESC adjustment - Course Rating) * 113 / Course Slope

As far as I know, only the USGA use slope ratings. We use the CONGU system: http://www.mygolfexperience.com/golf/uk/golf-handicap.asp

for reference I don't have vary many rounds in this year.

I have 9 hole rounds of 53 , 51, 42, 42, 43 from the reds rated par 35 70.9 / 118

And one round of 40 from the tips 72.1 / 121

but as i said i was shooting low 40s from the tips consistently to end last season.

Most online handicap calculators don't handle 9 hole scores properly so you end up with a really low number, try combining your scores and enter them in that way and you'll get a more accurate number.

I'm going to keep track of my USGA handicap from now on. It feels better to say i'm a 7.8 rather than a 9.2

i couldnt find one that did 9 hole rounds so this is what i did.  Kept it at 18 holes and kept the slope and course rating, but since my course is split par 35 front and par 37 back. i took my 53 and made it into a 108 (shooting the same over par on the back as the front) not sure how accurate that was but i just wanted a number i could work with.  I would think i play more to a 12-15 if you ask me.

In Germany you're allowed to play 9 holes in a tournament that will have an affect on your HCP, but the other 9 are always assumed to be 18 Stableford points.

9 hole rounds are accepted only in HC groups 3-5 (11.5 - 36) under EGA. National Committee can restrict this to groups 4-5.

In Switzerland you have to play in tournaments to change your handicap. You can't just enter your own scores.

(I guess that's a reason why I can easily beat my american/canadian relatives (handicaps 7-15).)
