Hey all,

I'm looking for a little help on irons. I think i fall somewhere in between game improvement irons and players irons. i would lean towards players irons (game improvement irons launch a little too high for me) but would still like to have a good bit of forgiveness since i certainly don't always hit the center of the clubface. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Where to start? Are there any brand's that you tend to prefer over the other? I think there are quite a few that could fall into your category. A lot of club makers now make a "tour" version of a game improvement iron.

can also blend a set of GI long irons with players shorter irons. Have a look at the bag reports of the tour pro's...many of them do that with GI 3 and/or 4 irons.

I am leaning towards Mizuno MX-25 4,5,6 irons and MP-60 7,8,9,PW.

there really aren't any brands that i prefer over others. i've been using the same Titleist DCIs for about 14 years now and just need an upgrade. I'm not too picky about the top line or anything like that. If it works i don't care what it looks like.

Have you tried the Cobra 2300 I/H?

Designed for the 0-15 handicap player who demands a mid-high launch and workability, the 2300 I/M irons are part of the revolutionary King Cobra Inertia Series, a seven-model family designed with high inertia properties promoting a superior Sweet Zone, greater accuracy and distinct launch characteristics.

I tried these last year and really liked them... I am not a 0-15 though so I ended up going with something a little more "game improvement", but these felt very solid...

Just because I'm a little more familiar with Cleveland, the CG4/CG4 Tour irons are very solid.

If you want a players iron but still want forgiveness, I just bought the Tilteist 735.cm and couldnt be happier. Your long and mid irons have the cavityback but your scoring irons are muscleback. Just a thought check them out, but If you want real forgiveness Ive heard the Cobra line has some good stuff, or even the new Taylormade R7 TP

Yeah I heard really good things about that new Cobra iron. Not sure if it falls too much in the GI category though.

I am breaking in a new set of Wilson ci6's. If you want some game improvement in a little more traditional shape, these are very clean looking. Offset and width are modest. I can move them forward and hit them high or back and hit them low, easy to draw, a little tough to fade. The short irons are definitely longer than my old set.The stock graphite and steel shafts are excellent unless you are a power player. If you are then maybe these are not for you.

Just went through the same dilemna .......used to play Titleist 735cm and switched to the Mizuno MX-25 which had tooooo much loft and flexible shaft (dynalite s300)....so i sold those and picked up the Taylormade R7 TPs and am very happy with these......the other ones I considered were Mizuno MP60s and Titleist 755s.......hope this helps

Taylormade R7's...I have the CGB's which lean to the game improvement side, but if the standard R7's are anything like the CGB's then they are "hot faced", solid feel, and workable.

I love mine...

I've had the Wilson Ci6's and they were solid irons that were forgiving and workable.

I have the Cleveland CG4's as a second set and they are great irons which are forgiving and very workable.
