Canadians/Canadiens... Why aren't there more of you...

.... playing on the PGA tour? all the courses up there, one think at least a handful would be playing here or in europe. what's the deal?

1.) The playing season is too short

2.) Odds are better of earning a good living by playing professional hockey, baseball, or football

3.) The best athletes don't play golf or if they do, it's as an offseason hobby. Young athletes tend to focus on a single sport at an early age these days

4.) 'Even though there are more courses and technically "golfers" per capita in Canada than almost every other country, there really isn't a feeder system for top players like there are with other sports.

5.) We don't produce a lot of pro tennis players either - see 1 through 4 for reasons why

how do the courses and/or golf teaching pro's even make money if the season is that short? surely the season is at least 7/8 months long? then there's the indoor facilities as well.

A lot of top Canadian athletes just don't choose golf. A lot of the people who actively participate aren't very athletic. It's not rocket science. Visit the Golf Canada site or do some digging beyond an American golf forum. There are a thousand reasons why Canadians typically choose other paths than professional golf. It's not our culture like it is for many US regions.
