How important is it to you to have matching clubs, bags, etc.?

I used to be the kind of person that wanted everything in my bag to match. Not just having all of the same brand of club, but from an asthetic stand point as well. Head covers, towels, umbrella, etc.

When I got my Nike Driver, I turned arround and got the Nike stand bag in the same color blue as the head cover. I tried to always wear Nike shoes and shirts as well. I found that it is very hard to worry about this type of thing though. I finished the season with three clubs in my bag that had red, white and black Titleist head covers and one with a blue and red Hogan one. When it came time to buy a new bag I thought about a Titleist one, then realized the same thing will happen down the road eventually. I went with a bag that does not really match anything. It's Lime Green.

Until someone starts paying me or giving me free clubs to use their stuff, I will keep my options neutral and my bag open to change.

It's not a priority but when I replaced my carry bag I did get red and black because my iron shafts were red and black, not buying a poodle yet .

Seriously after you have some kind of game you develop preferences and a way you want clubs to perform. Gaps, trajectory, workablilty vary with your playing style. If one company has the perfect club for all that congratulations, for the rest of us its whatever works best for each club.

I only buy black, white, and grey golf bags. No color here at all. Also, I never use the clubhead covers that come with my clubs since its like putting up a flag yelling "steal me!". As far as caring whether the colors or clubs or anything in my bag match, well the answer is a resounding no. I am more concerned about hitting them well than dressing them well.

Now myself, that is another thing altogether. I always make sure I match. Hat, shirt, belt, pants, shoes, all gotta match.

Yep. Has absolutely nothing to do with my buying choices. I buy my clubs based on what will help my golf game, and my other equipment is based on functionality, not brand or style.

I'm like a bag of mixed nuts. I can't ever have matching anything. The reason? I buy golf clubs like most women buy clothes - I see soemone else using it, I ask to test it out (or as I blogged about with the Square driver - they ask ME), and then next thing I know, I'm ordering one for myself and eenie-meenie-miney-moing which club has to leave the nest to make room for my new adoption.

The only thing that will NEVER get replaced is my putter, but maybe it should I don't know why, but it's that club I HAVE to have and it's old, worn and comfy.

And I'm HORRIBLE about taking care of my clubs - I hate covers because I always wind up leaving them somewhere on the course, so my clubs clank all around. I have a high golf bill and I haven't even returned to the course yet! :)

My mom's old clubs had covers for her {driver, 3W, 5W} that were tied together, so when she removed one cover, she couldn't leave it somewhere. I have no idea how to use these covers. Michael

I want a bag that carries what I need, since I only ride it will be a cart bag, I play almost everyday so I need room for every weather condition clothing. My clubs are what I hit best ( six different brands) most are Taylormade. and my bag has no matching clubs in the bag. It all works for me.

Most of my clubs match now, but that is always subject to change. It just worked out this way, I don't only try and buy one brand but I want to get whatever will help my game the most and what I feel comftorable with.

Interestingly to me, I have Mizuno woods and irons and cleveland wedges with Cameron putter. I do use a Sonartec hybrid.

Lately, i have been interested in buying the new Mizuno MP-R wedges with the nice sole grind with heel & toe relief and some bounce grind. I know what these forged wedges feel like cause i hit all their other clubs.

Problem is - I have this strange, unfounded resisitance to having all the clubs in the bag come from one company. WHY????? What the hey????

I think I will find a way to get over it.

My bag is a 6 year old Callaway stand bag. Perhaps an upgradge is due.

^maybe because it would make you look like you thought you were a wannabe sponsored golf pro. Its play clubs that give me the feel i want, right now im liking the feel and performance of my driver and irons, so i will keep them untill that changes for me... that might mean changing the brand i use but it doesnt really matter. I also tried playing bridgestone wedge's, i didnt like how clunky they were so i change them. Comes down to performance and like someone else said we're not sponsored so why use all the same clubs.

I have everything match from the bag, the glove, even my divot repair tool/ball marker is a Nike. My shoes are Nike and most of the shirts I wear to golf are Nike.

I think it has to do with the fact that the first good set of clubs I bought were Nike, and ever since then been a loyal customer. I've tried other brands and just kept coming abck so i figured why not chip in for part of Tiger's salary.

Put another mark in the "zero" column for me.
My clubs just happen to match (TaylorMade) because I like them.

Clothes on the other hand, I am very picky.
As you can see in my avatar.
My hat matches my shorts, which match my shoes
(yes I have different colour shoes & hats.)

But, only when it comes to golf. I couldn't care less for any other event.

As far as clubs go, I go with what I feel comfortable with and have had success in the past. As far as clothes and shoes, I try to match with regard to colors, rather than brand.

Good point, I never thought of those head covers being a yellow flag. They do yell "Steal Me!" I'm going to replace mine this weekend. That is always a concern for me.

I guess I'm the oddball here. I only play Hogan clubs and have always carried a Hogan staff bag. Not that I'm trying to look like a staff player, I've just always wanted people to remember the great Ben Hogan. I don't want his memory to fade.
The only hats I own are Hogan. Every winter I buy about 10 new ones while they are on sale. I don't think I'll ever own any other brand of clubs, not even if you gave them to me! Fan

It doesn't matter as long as the irons match the bag. For me, every golf manufacturer has its own specialty in making clubs, such as TaylorMade for its drivers, Mizuno - Titleist - Callaway for irons, Cleveland - Titleist for wedges, and Odyssey - Titleist for putters. Again, it's okay for me as long the most clubs I have match the bag. Oh, the umbrella needs matching too! I just can't see myself going around with, for example Cleveland bag while I have only one Cleveland wedge in the bag.

There's this funny story about my friend. He has this Callaway bag but he doesn't own any Callaway club at all. So whenever he carries his bag around I'd always ask, "Hey, where's the Callaway?"

    • In August, I am playing the World Am in Myrtle Beach. I do not know which courses yet, but should be a blast. Aside from that, those are the only golf trip plans, unless I play while on vacation in Destin in June.
    • Even on a perfect center hit I was receiving at most 1.48 smash factor. 10 days ago on the warming up for a round my Driver made a weird sound, I checked the bottom and it was cracked. Don't know for how long it was cracked but at least this time the crack was easy visible. Maybe it was already cracked before but with a more subtle crack?.. don't know. I'm waiting for TaylorMade to approve the warranty and send me a new head. I was using the Stealth Plus, I will take the opportunity and upgrade it to the Qi10 LS paying the difference.  On Sunday with my old Titleist 915 and softer balls I was reaching 1.5, even 1.51 on center hits. Test didn't went well. Only gained 2..3 miles, not worth pursuing. Figured out that with a ball and with a target, my path was way to in to out with this new idea, so in order to move the club in the correct path I needed to slow down to redirect the club on the downswing or aim more to the right, close the face a play a big hook.. not possible. I already play a big draw with Driver, more curvature is unplayable. Yesterday at home, with no ball messed around with a more neutral path, even swinging a little out to in. It felt a lot more in sync with the body. With a big in to out path it feels like my hands are working right, away from the body, when the body is working to rotate to the left. With the path to the left is was easier to apply force thru the hitting zone.  As always tested 10 swings with my current swing (A), and 10 with this little out to in path(B).  The difference was huge, like 12 miles faster with swing (B). I knew something wasn't right. The fact was that the PRGR was aligned more in line with the (B) path so it of course was giving higher speeds. I proceeded to align it with the (A) path and tested again 5 more swings each. Again (B) was faster but only by 5 miles. (Made a tiny experiment moving the PRGR to a more extreme in to out path and the swings register 25/30% slower for both swings, so it wasn't reading properly at that angle) Finally I moved the PRGR in the middle of both paths, and this time (B) won by 9 miles. Off course, this was without a ball and a target so.. I will be hitting the range tomorrow to see the real difference.
