Callaway Diablo Edge Vs. Titleist 983E

I've got a Callaway Diablo Edge 9.5º driver with an Aldila Habanero 60-S shaft. I believe the head is 460cc.

Today I bought a Titleist 983E 9.5º driver with an Aldila  NV 65-R shaft. The face is the same size and the head is the same height but the Callaway is longer from front to back.

I hit quite a few balls at the range with both today and I can't really say which one I like better but I'm glad a got a good backup driver or one to switch to on the days that the Callaway does me wrong.

So what does everyone think about these two drivers, especially for someone that has ball-contact issues. I have issues with hitting the ball with the same spot on the face every time. I tend to catch the ball with the toe and send it into the woods right beside me or the top/toe and send it into orbit over those same trees when I do hit it bad.

with drivers, the shaft is the most important thing. if you have a fast clubhead speed, you need a stiff. if you use a regular flex staff and you have tour level clubhead speeds, then this could lead to slicing it more often, or at least thats how it is with me. but since you have already purchased two drivers, just hit them and eventually you will grow fond of one of them.

I'm already fond of the Callaway. I just started playing golf this year and I quickly found out that my aluminum driver that came with my cheap set of clubs was garbage. I have been playing with the Callaway for a few months now and I like it. I just got the Titleist today and I'm thinking that I like it almost as much as the Callaway after hitting about a hundred balls at the driving range with them both today.

Tour level club head speeds are what gets me into trouble. When I try to murder the ball It takes a trip to sliceville since I have less control when I swing 100%. It's hard not to hit it for all you're worth when you still have 400-500 yards between you and the green though. It just looks so good when you do hit it right at full power, I think that's why I can't help but try.

I forgot to mention, the Titleist only cost me $40 and it's in pretty good shape too.

if youre fond of the callaway, and you can hit it consistently longer, and feel more comfortable using it, then use that. dont try to re-adjust so you can hit the titleist. honestly, i have never really liked titleist clubs, but i do play pro v1s usually. there's something about callaway's that just call my name..

The 983E is a great club, still very highly regarded to this day.  Not the best club to use if you're having ball contact issues however.  Forgiving compared to any pre-2001 driver, but less forgiving than nearly every driver since.

Also-never try to "kill" the ball-it just won't lead to good things.

And a regular flex shaft with stiff or Xstiff swing speeds is more likely to produce a hook, in my experience and observation.
