I just got the new Srixon Q star golf balls and I figured I'd do a quick review on them.
The Q star is a 2 piece design engineered to perform like a tour ball for slower swingers. The Q star is made of the following:
Core: Highly resilient rabalon.
Cover: Pana-tetra thin cover.
I picked this ball up at Dicks Sporting Goods for 24.99. The ball was scheduled to be released the next day, but the guy was nice enough to sell them to me a day ahead. The Q star incorporates the Srixon STAR performance. Spin, Trajectory, Acceleration, and Responsiveness. The only difference between the popular Z star is the Q star is designed for people 10 handicap and above or swing speeds less than 100. This ball is supposed to generate the right amount of spin for slower swing speeds. As you may see in the commercial for this ball If you are a slower swinger and you play a tour ball you may generate to much sidespin causing you to hit the ball everywhere.
Off the tee with the Q star I noticed I consistently gained 5-7 yards off the tee. The ball is soft and durable. I found I could compress this ball well and gained lots of confidence over the round.
When I first purchased the ball I went to the dicks sporting goods chipping green and chipped a few. Immediately I noticed more check and control. That carried over to the course the next day. I was amazed how much spin and control the ball had even though it was two piece. Wedge shots on hop and stop and on a few spin back. Long irons are two hops and stop. The ball is soft and very easy to control.
Off the putter the Q star was great. Good feel soft and solid looking. As this being the first Srixon product I've used I found the alignment tool very useful and easy to get used to after using a Bridgestone e6 alignment tool for so long.
All and All the Srixon Q star has everything in a ball I could look for. Distance, Spin, Durability, and most importantly Price. 24.99
is tough to beat with such good performance. But this ball is not for everyone. It is a ball for slower swingers and higher handicappers. But now, us higher handicappers have a tour performance ball designed for us! I can now say I switched to Srixon!
