i have had a hit with the JPX800 Pro at a demo day recently and really did like the feel of them in (in combination with a NS Pro 950 shaft). I have been given what seems like a decent price on a set, but whilst researching i am now caught between them and a new set of MX300's with the same shaft for about $200 cheaper. Are the JPX's worth paying the extra for, or is the difference that minimal I should try and save a few dollars? Opinions are appreciated, thanks guys.

I really like my JPX 800 Pros (I have the Nippon 1150). I think they are great irons, I've played my friend's MX300s and they feel great as well. I get a tad more distance from the JPX 800 (5 yards approx).

I think in the end, look at how often you play. I order my clubs from DiscountDansGolf.com, you may be able to get a good price from them on JPX 800 pros, and you can get whatever factory shaft is offered by Mizuno on their website.

If you really are a 30 handicap, the JPX-800 Pros probably arent for you and youd probably be much happier with the more-forgiving MX-300s.  The 300s are going to be more forgiving than the 300s and will give you a higher launch.

The Pros are great irons and are fairly forgiving but you still need to have a pretty decent swing to be effective with them.

thanks for the reply.

i'd had a look at the mizuno website - they have a clip there on the jpx pro's in which the guys reckon the jpx800 pro's are supposed to be as forgiving as the mx200, with the looks of the mx300. a combination of the best of the 2 of them.

I'd thought that they'd be more forgiving than the mx300's so it is very interesting to hear that the 300's are actually the more forgiving club.

Looking at the specs between the MX 300 and JPX 800 Pro it would seem that the MX 300 would be less forgiving given it actually has less offset than the JPX 800 Pro's..it's a marginal difference:

Standard Specs: JPX 800 PRO

Club Loft Length Lie Bounce Offset

Does anyone know if the MX 300's are softer than the JPX 800 Pros?

Not sure Id agree with them on that.  If you hold the JPX-800 Pro and MX-300 side by side they look pretty different.  Id say forgiveness is pretty similar but the 300s give more feel and feedback because of having more meat in the center of the clubface.

The current and 2010 Mizuno golf booklets suggest the following HDCP ranges for these models:

MX-300..........6-14 HDCP

JPX-800........10-35

JPX-800 Pro... 4-20

Maltby Playability Factors

MX-300.........MFP = 405 Conventional

JPX-800........MPF = 604 Game Improvement

JPX-800 Forged (Pro) ... MPF = 495 Conventional

( Golf Digest would consider Conventional to be in its Players range)

So for both HDCP range and playability, JPX-800 Pro would appear slightly more forgiving - may be why the MX-300 came and went so quickly, and are cheaper. What does launch monitor say?

As always, proper shaft is half the game.

Any consideration for JPX-800?

Focus, connect and follow through!

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

Played MX300's for 2 years, now playing JPX-800 Pro's. The 800's are a pretty amazing club - excellent feel and feedback, very workable and more forgiving than I thought they would be.  IMO, they are more fogiving than the MX300's. The 300 is a slightly smaller head and has a bit less offset as noted above. Someone above suggested the JPX 800's and I strongly second that suggestion considering your index. Good luck in your search.

    • This is pretty much how I look at it.  I understand there are times when the piece of mind has value. I think over the long haul I'm money ahead by never buying the extended warrantee. Hell, What do I know? I went to Ch!cago PubIic SchooIs.

    • On my car I got the extended power train warranty. I do read the fine print most of the time. Though at now 37, my eyes aren’t what they were 10 years ago.    The problem with most of these extended warranties on electronics and appliances is you don’t register the warranty with the place you buy the warranty from, which I’ve always found strange. Unless it’s GameStop then you know Alina drops her Switch in the next two years and the screen cracks they’ll replace it. No questions asked.    You buy a slow cooker at Walmart for $50 and the extended warranty is say $6, you have to go through a third party to register your product for the warranty, and it’s pretty damn annoying. Target is the same way. Anything you buy the extended protection on you have to go through a third party.    Why do retailers go through a “broker” for warranties? Because they don’t wanna deal with it? They make me talk to someone from another country, that I can barely understand, when I need my warranty fulfilled.   Sorry for the rant.
