Had a guy at the range watch me for a little bit today and then ask me a couple questions about what I was doing and why. we proceeded to get into a little discussion about what the keys points of a good swing are and he went on and on about how he pays attention to like 30 things while he is swinging. I started to tell him that I really don't worry about anything but 4 spots in my swing. parallel on the take away, parallel at the top, parallel on the follow through, and belt buckle at the top of the follow through. not sure if anyone else does it this way or if it sounds goofy or not. the way I see it, at least for me, if I hit these key spots nothing really goes wrong. I have a tendency to get too quick, which throws off my first two "points" I will cock my wrists too soon and miss parallel on the takeaway, then get too quick on the downswing and never make it to parallel at the top. after that anything can happen. does this make sense to anyone else?

Simple is good. Trying to keep track of 30 things in a golf swing?? That's nuts, and probably not really possible.

I try to focus on just a few things during the swing. Of course things go wrong, but that is what practice is for - to work on ONE thing at a time and to try and groove it into permanent.

Having 30 swing thoughts is crazy! If I had that many, I'd probably standing over the ball at least a few minutes before making a swing. Short and simple is always good. I've heard from tour pros only keeping 1-2 swing thoughts.

Best Regards,
Ryan

30 things like the voices in my head?

My best days I have one swing thought.  Dum... Dum.Dum  (back, stop impact)  Tempo.

Repeating the tempo pattern in my head tends to keep out the other thoughts.
