I'm sure this topic has been covered before, but with the trend to long putters lately I went in to get fitted. After some time messing with long putters of various lengths, etc, I just decided to get fitted for a standard length putter - I just can not get the "feel" using the longer putters. After my fitting I was told that the ideal length putter for my stroke/stance would be 31.5 inches!! Instead of buying new, I had my Ping Gi5 Anser shortened from 34", and then also added a degree of loft. Man what a difference!!!! I'm putting so much better! After doing a little research , I also found this very interesting article by Geoff Magnum: http://www.puttingzone.com/MyTips/lengthlie.html

Just wondering how many others have found that shortening their putter has had positive effects.

I'm short -- 5'8" -- and found my putting improved a good bit after having my putter cut down a year or two ago.

I recently picked up a shorter putter (don't know the exact length) and it feels so much more natural to me.  I've only had it for a few weeks, so I'm not really sure if I'm putting better with it, but Sunday my speed was great (for me...) ll day.
