TM Rocketballz... - Page 3

It's funny, everybody keeps saying they hate the name and it must be a joke, but there are at least three threads on here dealing with them.  So it seems to working from a publicity standpoint.  I've never seen this much attention given to any other company's new clubs.

No kidding. As if we don't get enough BS TMag marketing on television already. Now we get to read this marketing on the TST forum.

Thread Starter

I, for my part, made this thread to make fun of them.

So much of this forum is based around gear and brand names, if you censored or discouraged anything that could be construed as publicity, it'd probably die. A brand rep could probably come onto the site and post glowing reviews about their products and essentially advertise, and could never be spotted.

Also, most of this thread's opinions on TM in general have been quite negative, so it's not good word of mouth for them.

Oh I think they'd be spotted fairly quickly. People comment on it here and there when they get courageous. Maybe right after posting in the "Are you enoying the drink tonight?" thread.

When I introduced myself at the media day on Wed the comment was, "oh you have all the members with all the negative comments,"  It was pretty funny and yes Tmag is watching :-)

Obviously the name is doing exactly as planned everyone's talking about it, good or bad.  But you won't hear anything  bad about the performance.  If you think any of the negative comments are going to be a deterrent wait till you see flying out the stores.  Just going by what I saw and experienced on Wed the name and performance it's going to be the hottest club of the year.  Tmag also understands that a lot of online golfers love to bash the new releases, Ping goes through the same thing.   Never effects sales. There is a reason they release new drivers every year. The market demands it.

Nobody doubts they'll sell like hotcakes.

tmag?

Whatever.

Marketings job is to create product names (good or bad) that will get their products talked about in trade magazines and customers.  I'd say the TM marketing department will be getting a pretty large bonus for coming up with these names.

Okay, TMag -- RBZ is fine. But lets' 'fess up, the acronym, "RBZ" is an implied omission that the name is goofy to a conservative golfing public.

Balls going off like rockets is fine ... you're going for the younger audience, that's fine.

If the clubs perform, most will get over the name.

I'm an oldie, but have gotten over it ... even find it amusing.

BUT "ATV" for a wedge?

That's going a bounce too far... a2_wink.gif

I think that TM does pretty well and the word of mouth from this site does nothing to affect their sales.

These guys sell literally millions of clubs.

The fashion on this site is to say "TM is crap" and then make some "hilarious" joke about how soon the next release will be and how many weights it will have. Over and over again. HA HA.

There are fanboys for almost every brand , so I think it evens out.

Any serious discussion about clubs invariably devolves into a "This is what I have" exchange, so it's not worth it.

My guess, though, is that the clubs are called RBZ and the "Rocketballz" thing (trademark notwitstanding) is actually a joke which most people seem to have all fallen for.

TM are not that stupid.

So true.  Lowest common denominator.

Ouch! I just bought two RBZ clubs. I guess I like pedestrian stuff. Oh well. :-S

After a year with my RBZ Driver, I have decided I don't like it.  It will be getting traded.  Looking at the Ping i25 and g25.  I can't escape the hooks with the RBZ.
