If I'm 13 now and shoot in the 40's, can, and how exactly can I make the tour. I'll try and upload some vids of my swing, im hoping iacas can help in that department....

Get extremely comfortable around the greens. Practice a lot. Play a few amateur tourneys. Go to a college with a golf team. Win the US Amateur...

Read Paper Tiger to give yourself an idea on what type of dedication you are looking at. Plus it will help with your reading skills in case the golf thing doesn't work out.

Seriously, I wish you luck and can say that it is great to dream. Just make sure that you throw in some intermediate goals along the way. Jr. Golf Goals, High School Goals, College Goals, etc.

With any long term goal I tend to work it backward. If your ultimate goal is to get to the tour, what's the step before that? How do you get to the step before that? And repeat.

Good luck with it though and make sure you're a demon around the greens.

Do you also remember when bronze  medalists were losers for finishing 3rd?

Focused practice is better than a lot of practice. A lot of focused practice is even better.

I am a 13 year old guitarist.

I'm a beginner but I want to join the Rolling Stones.

Exactly how would I go about achieving this?

Now.....does that sound a wee  bit silly?

Not trying to be rude, but seriously, you're putting the cart before the horse.

Work it backwards. Who are the guitarists in the Stones currently and who were the previous guitarists? How did each of them get their big break? What did each guitarist do prior to joining the Stones? What do I need to do to get to that point? And what do I need to do to get to the point before that? And the point before that?

Not saying it's foolproof by any means but if you aim high but have a good plan of action great things can be possible. If we all sit down and say "there's no point in trying" or only ever shoot for easier goals we never achieve anything.

I'd say get a glimpse of tournament play, ie start cheap and play the Golf Channel AM tour and see how you do under pressure a few times...then hit an amateur event near you. I'd also recommend a tent/sleeping bag/etc because the minute you decide to do it, you're gonna have to LIVE at the range. Shorty, we've been over this; you give some "meaning well" advise, i verbally abuse your bitter ass, someone else noses in and says I have no respect, ie "when I was a boy".........i didn't ask for an editorial on your opinion on setting goals Mr. "Haters Staw Away"

You'd better get on that. Time's running out - literally.

I know, but surely you can tell me what I need to do.

If it's as simple as becoming  a really great guitarist, making friends with Mick and waiting for Keith to fall of his perch, I know I can do it.

It's a simple and logical path.

No harder than saying to our young friend. "Become one of the best couple of hundred players in the world"

He can be given some simple drills to acomplish this goal.

What chords should I be practising? Or is it just a question of buying the latest Gibson?

Anything is possible!! Especially if you start with the goal in mind!!

Yes, you should make friends with Mick and buy the latest Gibson. Gibson's Finest and lots of it.

Not necessarily.

There are plenty of 13 year olds that can do that - not all of them will make the Tour...if any

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
