Grip size?

I like midsize myself, but I can get along with standard. I prefer ribbed, I like cords, and I dislike winn grips in everything except the putter. I dislike soft grips and wraps. My set does not have the same grips right now, since I wanted to try out different things, but most are basic midsize rubber.

 

I suggest you try a few different styles and sizes, but my glove size is the same and I like midsize, so I'd start there. Some people swear by jumbo, especially in the putter, but you'll have a limited range of options in non standard sizes. Wearing a glove will make many of the material choices less important.

 

One thing you might get fed to you is the lightweight grips; they try to feed you a load of bull about how it increases swingweight and club speed... Maybe, but I don't buy it and the one grip I'm probably going to get rid of is a lightweight one. The feel of the grip is way more important than the weight.

A lot of places will fit you for grips, you should if anywhere near you does that. I prefer midsize myself, it just feels the most comfortable. You might want to try different sized grips on a few clubs, so you can try it out on the course without fully committing to anything.

For grips, it is a preference thing... Some like softer grips, some like firm.  Size of the grips can vary - and generally I would recommend you use a normal grip size unless you have oven mitts as hands.  Then maybe go with a medium sized grip if you truly have large hands?  Going with an over-sized grip on an iron just seems silly to me... 

 

Weather conditions should be considered... If you play in humid to wet conditions, the tackiness of the grip will be more important than a dry climate.  And if your hands sweat a lot, you may want to take things like that into consideration when you select a grip.

 

As for specific driver grips... A lot of manufacturers are coming out with light weight grips... I actually installed the WinnLite grips on my clubs this past Fall when I picked up my MP-59's and went with them due that they were a mere 25g per grip.  And they felt soft and tacky to my hand.

For putters, the trend seems to be over-sized grips from companies like Winn and Tigershark as they help eliminate use of your wrist - and get more of a true pendulum type of stroke.

 

Companies like Golf Pride, Winn, Iomic and Lamkin are pretty popular.  Go to their websites and look around... Then go to a local golf shop like Golf Galaxy and see what feels best to you.

 

I just picked up my Vokey SM4's a few weeks back, and they have a different grip than the WinnLite's I added to my MP-59's.  The grips on the Vokeys feel like they are going to rip the skin off my hand as they are more like a Golf Pride Tour Velvet type of grip.  Some people love those type of grips, but my preference is for a softer feel.  And I'll be re-gripping these wedges soon.

Definitely midsize for myself. Probably midsize plus an extra couple wraps of tape. The standard size grip is just too small for comfort.

I absolutely love the Lamkin OVERSIZE grip - regripped all of my stuff with this grip - feels great & just works for me.     It's all relative - the difference in diameter from regular to oversize isn't that much when you put them side by side, but it definitely is discernable when on a club.    If  you go to a big golf chain store, they usually have cut off clubs in the grip display bins with the handles installed so you can compare & judge the feel for yourself.  

 

Bottom line - regripping clubs is so easy - just do one club if you want to try it out - if you find out after playing it you don't like it, strip it off & try another one until you find one that you really like... then and only then do all of your clubs.

Also not an article.  It's an advertisement for your company.  FWIW, like your one-size "article," it's long on conclusions (our clubs are the best) and short on evidence.

 

I found it to be completely uninteresting, and also found it full of complete BS.     Equating grip size choice to scalpels, chopsticks, piano keys, etc. makes no sense, but even those you got completely wrong: 

 

• Only one size scalpel?   Try actually going to a medical supply catalog (like you claim) and look up "scalpel", and you'll find they come in lots of sizes, ranging from a #10 to a #60 with all different size handles, blades, weight, and balance.   Speak to a surgeon and you'll find they have their personal preferences to get the right size so it reduces fatigue and increases accuracy.   
• Only one size chopsticks?   Ever been to Asia?   You'll find all different sizes, and different size people like different chopsticks, again for the same reason - get the right weight and balance to feel most comfortable.
• Piano keys?   Wow, talk to any pianist or try yourself and you'll find that different pianos have different weight keys and different feeling actions, again so that different people with different finger size and strength can find a version that fits their playing style best.

 

I could go on and refute ever single one of your "only one size exists" examples - every one is as ludicrous and completely inaccurate.    Your whole advertisement advocating one size grip is bad advice.
