Golf Sets or Golf Games ???

A little more *A* than *B* - I buy more clubs than I should(but havent updated most clubs in ages), play 90% of my rounds at my home course, but will play other courses when I can get people together. I will not travel world wide to golf because I try to stay away from flying whenever possible

I'm a full-on B. Been playing for four years, and only owned one set of clubs other than the crappy starter set I got for < $100.  Would much rather pay to play than chase the latest equipment.

 

(Btw, not sure if you can still make this thread a poll but it would be a great poll question...)

I'm a hybrid, while I don't have the latest and greatest clubs, but I tend to not be more that a generation behind.  I don't play one course, I like playing numerous courses over the year, but I'm not one to spend $100 on a round, I'd rather spend $50 on two rounds.

I'm definitely B.  I buy new clubs when I wear out my old ones, and I'll pay the cost of a new driver to play a course if I really want to play it.

I'm more A* golfer with a little bit of B*. I have a membership and play there majority of the time but I do like playing other courses when I can. But I look for deals online to play other courses. I really don't want to spend more than $60 for a round. But I play enough rounds where I have to play other courses for a challenge or I get bored.

More of an A, but I tend to stay cheap all around in golf. Even staying cheap is a relatively expensive part of the monthly budget.

Part of the leaning toward A is because

• I haven't yet fallen in love with many clubs yet. It's hard to resist buying something else on occasion. But it's always for a reason, I don't mess with what isn't broken.
• I'm not very good yet. I'd hate to waste one of my crappy days on a gorgeous, expensive course. Likewise, I can't appreciate the best a course has to offer yet.

Once those two settle (eg, I find my ideal equipment and I improve my consistency), I'll probably swing more towards the B side. But we'll see.

I'm both. I like looking at new equipment but I don't actually buy anything because I'm very comfortable with what's in my bag now. I mostly like knowing what any new equipment has to offer.

 

I don't have a membership or a specific home course nor do I take exotic golf trips (at least not yet). I try to play close to home or within a 30 minute driving radius mostly because of my current situation. Doesn't matter if it's a good golf course or just a cheap muni.

Definitely B.  The set I have is the only set I've bought.  I started with a hand-me-down set from my dad.  Never changed it until about a year or so ago.  The putter was the last one that I changed from the hand-me-down set.

Both, right now more A than B because I'm not quite good enough to fully appreciate the great courses that are out there.  Once I get the handicap lower I expect to be more B than A. 

I am inbetween. I don't like to buy new clubs ever year, but every 3-5 years isn't to bad. Thats usually wedges, irons, and driver. The putter will stay with me for a long time, i like the one i have.

 

The whole thing was worded a bit weird for me.......For that reason, I say neither because I don't know what buying 'golf sets' means...LOL

 

 

All kidding aside, golfers aren't grouped like you suggest above. 

Roughly speaking:

Grouping players who spend lots of clubs that only play 1 course/and or cheap courses... ....VS.......players who spends little on clubs but spend lots on playing nice courses does not really compute.  Golfers can't be categorized that way...IMO

 

The premise isn't valid....golfers who spend freely on equipment tend to spend freely on where they play....and vice versa.
 

 

If that's true I guess I'm the exception - I spend freely on where I play but spend hardly anything on equipment.

 

Granted, very few people are going to be completely on one end of the spectrum or the other, but still I've been interested in the replies.

I definitely spend more on playing too...but then again, I play a lot.  LOL
