Hello,

I have an old vokey 56 that is quite worn on the sole and face.  I have an oil can 60 and was thinking of removing the chrome completely.  I know I can send it away to have the wedge redone but was wanting to do it myself without removing the shaft.

Any ideas?  Paint remover might work but not sure.

Thanks in advance.

Brian

You need to send them to a plating shop, to have the chrome chemically removed. It's really not a "do it yourself" project.

I knew a gal once that could suck the chrome off a bumper hitch.  Too bad I lost her number!

I think I'm married to her!!

But seriously thanks for the feedback.  I was hoping it could be a do it yourself job.  It is nothing more than liking the oil can look and having an old worn wedge.

Just hit that 56 a couple million more times from the sand trap, desert landscape, cart path, etc... And you'll have that nice worn in look you desire. Pass this onto your gal as a reason to play more golf!! ;)

Potentially you could have it sandblasted off - but unless you are equipped for that yourself it would still involve taking it somewhere.  The chroming process ensures that it will be there a long time - better take it to a plating operation and have them do it.

    • So, last night was the first night of golf league. First tee I stuck in the ground this year. First time hitting a ball off the grass. Left my putter on my indoor putting mat in the office so I was able to borrow one of my pal's spare putters. I putted poorly, but not the putters fault. Took me forever to realize the greens were very very slow. We've had tons of rain and the greens were downright furry. I also went from my car to the clubhouse to the first tee. No warm up.  It took me a bit to get it going. But finished solid. I think I had four penalty strokes in the first 5 holes.
