http://content.usatoday.com/communities/gameon/post/2012/02/vick-tiger-lead-list-of-americas-most-disliked-athletes-michael-vick-tiger-woods-forbes/1 This surprises me. I know there's a hard core that has always hated Tiger, and I know he lost a lot of fans in his scandal two years ago. But I really thought that his recent good play turned most of the fickle fans back to him. Same with Michael Vick. In all the coverage of his last three events, which was pretty much wall to wall Tiger coverage, I didn't see or hear a single anti-Tiger catcall. Even during the President's Cup, when the crowd was rooting for the Americans to lose, and even playing against Aussies, he got nothing but enthusiastic applause. I could easily believe that the number of Tiger haters went from like 20% to 60% at its worst, but I would have thought it had settled down to, say, 40%. To have Tiger and Vick disliked more than Suh, who stomped on a player on national television and then denied it, blows my mind. Do you guys trust this poll? Suppose he wins the WGC-Cadillac and Masters, which is my prediction. Will the fickle fans forgive him then?

I think you can include the people who are tired of hearing about Tiger into that hate group, which I think is a pretty large group. Most articles you read about Tiger have nothing to do with him winning and that's why people are tired of hearing of him.

I personally don't care how many articles they publish about Tiger. I can see why these forms of media write about Tiger, including forums such as this. Tiger is what made golf mainstream and continues to do so.

BTW, I'm definitely not part of that 60%.

Best Regards,
Ryan

I pay no attention to this drivel. "Market research" and "E-polls" are a complete waste of time unless they are done across a broad spectrum of people of all walks of life. It's relatively easy to skew the results to be against Tiger if the "research" was done on a primarily female user base of which the majority are married as immediately they'll have stronger "dislike" tendencies than others who may be impartial.

Tiger's life is Tiger's life as far as I'm concerned. While I don't 'agree' with various things he's done I'm not fussed by them either. I like Tiger for what he's done for the sport and for him as a competitor.

Kudos on creating yet another Tiger thread for a change by the way.

I've never understood this. If somebody in a football group said or implied that Steelers fans should give it a rest and start more topics about the Dolphins, everyone would question his sanity.

I never said anything about giving it a rest, I just posted an observation that the vast majority of the topics you start or comments you make are Tiger-related.

It's actually quite impressive how much you like Tiger.

Derp.

There are far more threads on Tiger Woods than the Steelers I am sure. Can not compare a team to an individual either. You'd have to compare Tiger to a single player. Then the argument loses more ground.

Horsepucky. There are a hundred times more football fans than golf fans. At least. And there are probably a thousand times more threads about football on the various boards. This is just about the only decent golf board on the net. There are a zillion football boards. If you *are* a football fan, you have 32 NFL teams to pick from, and hundreds of colleges, and from those two categories there are at least 75 teams that have a large and dedicated fan base. If you're a golf fan, unless you're related to a touring pro, the odds are that your favorite golfer is one of dozen or so, and if you're an American, it's probably one of three or four. Actually, probably one of two, for close to half of American golf fans.

Who cares? This is off topic at best. Enough.

They should have made a list for athletes based on their actions in the respective sport, rather than what they do on their spare time. I don't care a whole lot what athletes do off the course, pitch or whatever.

"Most" anything is also linked to who people have heard of. It says nothing in this case about how deeply disliked someone is. I'm sick of a lot of celebriities and could vote for any one of them on a certain day, but there are only a few that make a persons blood boil.

Case in point: Have you ever heard of Claude Lemieux?

Mizuno MP600 driver, Cleveland '09 Launcher 3-wood, Callaway FTiz 18 degree hybrid, Cleveland TA1 3-9, Scratch SS8620 47, 53, 58, Cleveland Classic 2 mid-mallet, Bridgestone B330S, Sun Mountain four5.

After his personal issues I no longer "like" Tiger.  I'm not trying to judge him, he's just no longer someone I want my kids to look up to (maybe that is a judgement...).  So while "hate" is a strong word, I no longer support him.  I do HATE all of the coverage (including this thread) that Tiger is getting. Seriously, I wish he would either start winning again or just go away.  The endless discussions of him when he's not winning are pretty painful.

    • So the biggest issue right now is marrying the hands down with an athletic turn. I can get stuck not turning. Things get interesting from there.

    • Hi everybody!  I am new to the golf game. I have taken some lessons and got fitted for clubs a couple of months ago. I usually score between 110-120 for 18 holes.  I bought a Stealth driver last year and have been hitting consistently with it 210-230 yds on the simulator. But when I take it out on the course, every drive is a severe slice!  I played 18 holes yesterday at the club where I belong. I removed the driver from my bag and used the 5 iron to drive with. I hit straight 16 out of 18 drives, 180 - 200 yds. I used the 5i - putter for the rest of my game.  I ended the day with a 92. Question: Does it make sense for me to continue playing with irons only until I get further along in my game before I reintroduce the Driver and woods again? Or should I continue to struggle with the Driver and woods and shoot in the 100’s again? To me it’s a no brainer, but for those more advanced I am interested to get feedback.
    • Thank you, currently I only had the 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9 irons in the bag. I was never finding myself in a situation to use the 4 and 5 so I dropped those a while ago. The 60W is what I've been practicing with the most in the back yard, but that's only with short chipping. I don't think I've ever practiced hitting my wedges at 80% - 100% apart from yesterday. Maybe I should be doing that more. Generally I would be using a 9 iron if I was out about 75 yards or so. I am not really sure I understand your mention of the 60W and 3H. Aren't these going to be giving me completely different results? Unfortunately I am not able to adjust the loft on the hybrids I have. I looked into the Shot Scope H4 you suggested and this seems really neat and handy, however I am struggling to understand how it works. Am I correct in assuming it doesn't track the ball distance until you hit the ball a second time? Say I drive from the tee and walk up to my ball, tag the next club and hit the ball. Is it at this point when I tag my next club while standing next to my ball that is knows the distance? Thank you, I am going to give the local shop a call and check their prices and see what they can offer.
    • Do you know what their handicaps are? The handicap system isn't perfect and given the higher variance from higher handicaps, I think low handicap players would be expected to win maybe 60% of their matches? I'm not exactly sure what that number is and it will vary with the handicap difference, but if they're generally very low handicaps, then they might be at 60% likely to win a game. Given it's 16 vs 16, that's a lot of games to win. If it's 60%, then that's around an 80% chance that they'll win a given match. At 80% chance of winning, 21 wins in a row is about 1 in 108 times. Pretty unlikely, but not unheard of. It's pretty sensitive to what that individual win percentage is too. If it's 65%, then 21 wins is about 1 in 9. If it's 55%, then 21 wins is 1 in about 5,700. Clearly it's not as simple as this because that win likelihood is going to change match to match as they play lower handicap teams or higher handicap teams, but I don't think it's a "yes they're cheating" thing at all.
