Dubai Desert Classic

I was in the gallery for this event when Rory won in 2009, so I'm kind of partial to it.

The usual suspects near the top of the leaderboard after 1 ...

... had to scroll down a bit to find Lee Westwood though.

John Daly had another round under par. Seems like the desert agrees with him.

Daly, Monty and Couples were grouped together ... looked like the Champions Tour.

They all came in under par though. c2_beer.gif

Kaymer wins a watch on 7 and Rory and Thomas Bjorn lead by 1.

Rory made a big leap today with a 65, going all the way to the top along with Thomas Bjørn.

Lots of interesting names on the leaderboard, should be a good weekend.

T1: McIlroy, Bjørn
T4: Kaymer
T7: Siem, Westwood
T11: Stenson
T18: F. Molinari

I'd say Rory is the best player in the world right now, and I expect he will be the official #1 within a couple of months. It will be great to see him battle Tiger over the next few years, assuming Tiger gets his game all the way back.

Perhaps being in a country where booze and drugs are less normal agrees with him. He may be drying out in more ways than one. What a great story of redemption he could be if he really did get his act together.

Like I said on the Qatar thread, lot's of booze in the middle east ... and though people are definitely a lot more discreet, there is no shortage of drugs. Look at where Dubai is located on a map ... it's surounded by heroin and hash producers.

I've had a few pints at that golf course myself. c2_beer.gif

Maybe Daly's just getting his shit together.

cant see Rory not winning, he's won there before, is top of the leaderboard and is incredible! hope Bjorn pulls it off though as i had a £5 ew on a double of him and DJ at Pebble on Thursday

Today Rory's accuracy off the tee reminds me of TW in the last few years.

Westwood's game is looking sharp. But my pick for the win is Björn.

John Daly beat Rory by five shots today.

I only caught the last few holes today, but I assume Rory wasn't too sharp ... he's only 2 strokes out though.

Good to see Daly doing well ... he gets a lot of sponsor's exemptions on the Euro-tour, so if I have to watch him play, he may as well put on a show.

Oh boy was that an embarassing chip shot on the 18th hole for Lee Westwood, no wonder he doesn't win majors with that short game under pressure.

I wasn't able to watch today ... so did Westwood basically give it away on the last hole?
