Hello everyone, Mike here from SoCal. I havent touched a golf club in the last 10 years since I've been out of high school. I was in a local Dick's sporting goods the other night and for fun decided to swing a couple irons just to see if I still had my swing...... The itch came back and came back fast........... I used to play twice a month and hit the range at least once a week.......Now I'm looking at getting back in.......... what has changed in the last 10 years????? Im looking at my incomplete set of clubs wondering what would be my best route for building a half-way decent set of clubs???? Any help that the golf community might have to help me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Hi Mickey,

When i first started out playing golf my first set of irons were a second hand set of callaway X16's, they are the most forgiving clubs ive ever hit and to be honest i wish i still had them. You could lay your hands on a set on e bay or something like that.

Best of luck!

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
