How to carry a Vokey RAW rusty in the Golf Bag?

Hi dear colleagues,

I just bought a Titleist Vokey 60-11 raw, I was curious about this rusty type clubs ... but now I've a couple of doubts.

My sand wedge it's really water sensible. If you clean it with regular water, and you don't carefully dry it after.. after 1h it appears like in the picture i've attached (you can see were there was water drops now start to oxidate ) . I totally like the effect , but also if you touch it with 1 finger your hand become rusty red. And the smell is not neutral like any other club.. it smell really like IRON.

I always try to keep as clean as possible my golf bag, but if I add this Vokey inside .. In my humble opinion.. I think that after one month the bag is all rusty red inside. And maybe I'm also a little bit worried if all this rust can infect the other clubs that are not RAW (but they have steel shaft) .

Any suggestion , advice, thought it's appreciated, thank you very much

It won't affect the other clubs if they are either chromed or have some other type of coating.  Even the shafts are chromed.  I suggest wiping the head real good before storing your bag.  Or if you want to keep it from rusting in the first place, wipe it with WD40 or gun oil before storing.  However, I believe they are meant to rust as that help to increase spin.  But I doubt that it will attain a surface rust that will start to degrade your bag.

It wont hurt your other clubs because they have chrome finish, which protects them from rust.  My irons and 2 out of my 3 wedges are chrome, but in the middle I have a 54 degree wedge in a raw, black satin finish that rusts like your Vokey does and Ive never found rust on my other wedges, just the raw one.

Like others have stated, you can negate the rust effect by cleaning the club immediately after each round, drying it thoroughly, and then protecting it with a silicone type spray.

You can purchase an eraser type tool to rub off the rust after each use, or a light abrasive followed by a silicone spray.

Allow it to rust completely and the rust will grow in the grooves, dulling them and negating the effect of the grooves.

So I'd probably clean it, use abrasive, dray it, and finish with the silicone type spray.

LOL - I bought a "raw" finished golf club once. Once.

Let it rust. Contact with ball/ground will wear it nice and bright in all the right spots.

Mr Desmond, how does one remove the silicone spray before using the wedge next? My R12's had a tag on them mentioning something about protecting them with silicone but not how to remove it before play (I'd assume the ball would lose tons of spin if the club was still covered in silicone when used?)

Wouldn't having a silicon spray on the face be illegal anyway?

Leaving the club uncovered will usually dry out the silicone eventually and you may see some rusting. If I wanted to maintain the silicone and prevent rusting  (and I did so with Cameron Blue Oxide Putters), then I coated the inside of the head cover with silicone or baby oil (Cameron's recommendation at the time) and put the cover on. Before play, I'd take a towel and wipe down the club. I've got to admit, baby oil did a great job. My Cameron Blue Oxide, which was notorious for rusting, was still pristine and like new after a couple of years.

Not if you wiped it down before play. Typically, an uncovered club sprayed with silicone will dry out over a day or two. If you want to maintain it relatively rust free, you would spray the inside of the head cover with silicone or coat it with baby oil - and use the head cover. Before play, wipe the club down. See my post above.

PS: It's really impressive how the rust grow if you spill just a few drops of water on the wedge.

I would not put a head cover back during the round unless it is a wood -- if you do, you are just trapping moisture on the club and adding to the rusting process. Plus, if it's got silicone inside, that is a no-no.

You can just wipe it off with steel wool if you don't like it.  It isn't very tough to remove.

here's how it looks like after the 3rd day of oxidation, now the inside of the raining-eclosure of the bag.. is getting a little red :-p  but as you said.. for a little more spin everything ! :p

I couldn't have a raw club, my OCD would take over.  I scrub all my clubs down after every weekend to make sure they're perfectly clean.
