Just one Brand in the Bag

Hey Guys,

Who off you has just one brand in the bag?

In a few weeks i will have an all Taylormade bag.

I never had this before. I recently bought the

taylormade R11 rescue TP 16 degrees, with the aldila rip hybrid shaft Stiff (85gram)

What will replace my cobra baffler pro ( i don't like this club ).

My Titleist Vokey wedges are worn down so i needed to replace them.

I tought i would give the all new Taylormade ATV's a go. This together

with my R11 driver and 3 wood and the tour preferred irons and also my ghost tour 770 putter makes my bag all Taylormade.

Tried it once when I was young about 15 yrs ago -- with Ping, except for putter.

Don't think it's worth it -- go with what works for you instead of a brand.

My Driver can be any brand

I prefer Fairways and hybrids to be one brand but will break it up

Irons as one brand of course.

Gap-Lob as one brand

Putter as another brand

I like some uniformity among similar clubs.

Mines pretty much a mixed bag as well.

Haven't had a matched bag for years now. Last same-brand bag must have been John Letters, but that goes back a long way.

I used to be a multi-brand guy but over time I've started to love Mizuno clubs. Started off with a driver and 3W, then got a 3H to match them, then got fit for irons and loved the MP-59's, then figured if the irons were so good I'd try the wedges, loved the MP R-12's and figured I'd see if the Bettinardi putters are great and got on well with that too.

I've never had a bag of only one brand, but I could see me having a complete Titleist bag. IMHO, their drivers aren't as strong as Taylormade and Callaway, but I've hit a few that weren't bad.

There was a point when I had all Titleist, but I'm back to a mixed bag.

I have never found one brand to fit the bill. I am not saying that I couldn't play all Titleist, TM, Adams, Mizzy, etc., I just wouldn't want to have to. There is just so much individual preference in the clubs. Most pros don't either, even the ones who get paid to represent. There is always that one pet putter, hybrid, three wood, etc. that gets put in the bag.

I get what you mean, but to be honest i don't buy by brand, just because off the brand. My irons are like 5 years old now, they stayed in the bag because i could't find a better suiting club, as for woods and fairways i like to have the same feel of the club, so normally it is just one brand and same shaft type. ( probably the shaft is most important) The hybrid just fitted me best, i turned it to 17 degrees loft witch opened the club face a little, for me this suites best.

I've been 11-13 of 14 clubs as one brand for a while now....and it's been Adams the entire time. I love the look of most of their clubs, and they perform very well. The only thing I don't have of Adams is a putter. I don't like the Adams putters, and I haven't really seen many YES! putters that I care for (plus they're not carried by any local shops to even try out).

I'm close to being a one brand guy (Titleist) but I have one one holdout: TaylorMade R9 driver.  Always been a big TaylorMade driver guy, but if I were going out to buy one today I don't think I'd get another one, simply because I'm not a fan of the white headed drivers.  I've hit them and they feel great, just don't like the looks...it's distracting to me (yeah, maybe I need to work on the mental part of my game!).  If I were to buy irons I'd be back to Titleist, never had anything than Vokey wedges (even when I had other brands irons) and my wife bought me a Scotty putter a few years back for my birthday so that's never going anywhere.  Last year I got the Titleist 3-wood and hybrid but didn't do so based on  name only; hit a ton of them and just liked those the best.

Used to have all Titleist in the bag a few years back from driver down to the ball. Now my bag is split between Nike irons and balls and Titleist woods, wedges, and a putter.

When I came back to the game after a layoff and was deciding to buy new clubs I thought about making them all the same brand but I believe that some companies do certain clubs better than they do others, so I'm using a lot of different manufacturers.

Pretty much a foolish path to go down.

You end up making compromises - and for what? - So that you have one name?

Very few pros do this (Ping players?) because their contracts demand it.

The majority have a bit of a mix.

Pros without contracts will typically have four or five brands. Makes sense to go for favourite/best in category.

Same here - there's always at least one oddball club at either end that's a better mate for the rest of the setup. I preferred Cleveland wedges and a Mizuno putter with my old Titleists, a Mizuno driver, Adams hybrid, and Hogan wedges with my otherwise Cleveland setup, and a PING driver, Cleveland 3-wood, and Odyssey putter with my "all Mizuno" bag. My OCD dictates that I must avoid OEM headcovers.

Jason Day is a prime example, so it can be done, but a lot of veterans have 1 OEM in headcovers only.

Rocco Mediate probably has the best deal for this. Probably has the most mixed bag on the tour right now.

There's a photo or two of Tom Lehman's bag over at another site. It looks like he grabbed a bunch of random clubs from the basement to put a set together. Not sure he even has 2 matching irons.

Foolish if you're doing it solely for the brand name I agree. If you hit the clubs better than other brands then definitely not foolish. Sometimes it's simply a case of being impressed by a single club, trying another club of that brand and if you hit it better bagging it?

I owned a TM Burner hybrid and was happy with it. By far my favourite club to hit.

I played Nike irons right up until I tried Yonex irons and as I hit them better I bagged them when it came to replacing my irons.

Wedge-wise I tried Cleveland and Titleist and ended up hitting the Vokeys better.

My first 3W was a Yonex Nanospeed 3i which I tried on the strength of my like of the irons.

I wanted a driver so attended a fitting expecting to love the TM R9 based on how well I hit the TM 4H but I ended up hitting the Mizuno JPX 800 better than the Ping G15, the Cleveland Launcher DST, Taylormade R9 and Titleist 909 D2 that I tried at the time.

At the fitting I was so blown away by the JPX 800 driver that I decided to try the fairway wood hit it a LOT better then the Yonex so I bagged it.

After a while the Taylormade 4H needed replacing as it wasn't the correct loft for consistent gaping between my 4i and 3W. I tried a 3H on the strength of the JPX's I owned and loved it.

Knowing how much I love my woods when it came to replacing irons again I went for a Mizuno fitting and hit the MP-59's fantastically. Also hit the R12 wedges great and they felt better to me than my Vokeys so I replaced the Vokeys.

If someone rolled-up tomorrow and said, "Here, give my Cleveland driver a whack" and I hit it great I'd make note of it to be tried and fitted when it came to replacing my driver next", same goes for any other club in the bag; I use what works for me. :)
