That was great, what kind of match was that? Sharapova and Wozniaki are pretty cool if that was a serious competition. Wonder how Tiger would have reacted in that kind of situation?

Yours in earnest, Jason.

Some sort of Exhibition match.

There's fooling around and then there's fooling around.

Wouldn't happen in a proper match when one of them is about to serve to stay in/win the match.

Lighten up Francis.

And ya better get used to it. Rory is the biggest talent to emerge on the golf scene since Tiger and he will here a long time.

Go Rory!

Based on that video he doesn't have much of a back hand but I thought I read he's a decent tennis player.

What can you really base on the video tennis-wise? He did win the point against Sharapova! It was all good fun and just shows that he is a good sport. I think Chubby is probably kicking himself now seeing how he is being received. His marketability is only going up.

That's good that he can switch it on like that and perform in front of 20,000.

Rors has it all right now: great personality, super-hot girlfriend, best golfer in the world...making all the right moves.

Don't you see it? It is required that comparisons to Tiger must be drawn, regardless of how irrelevant to golf (and Tiger) Rory McIlroy's actions are.

I think its quite natural to draw comparison between the World's Number One and Former (and possibly re-surging) Number One, is it not? I would have said, " Gee, I wonder how Luke Donald would have reacted in that situation?" but I don't think anyone really cares. Why is everyone so Tiger sensitive? Mention his name and you get a reaction every time...bizarre.

I thought the point of the thread was something like - "Hey look how cool and easy Rory is with the public." Ok, but compared to what or who? I mentioned Tiger because he is the OBVIOUS comparative to look to (at least to me) but apparently this is a faux pas.

I seem to recall when Mike Tyson was at the height of his fame/notoriety people would often ask how (insert favorite heavy weight of the past) would react in similar situations. It wasn't to belittle Tyson or elevate anyone else, just comparing champions. That's all folks, no secret agenda.

I think Rory is great, I think Tiger is great. I didn't know you weren't supposed to talk about them at the same time.

I think he was smart not to try an serve it too hard with no warm up.  That's an easy way to injure yourself.  Rory is a very likable young man.  He is going to be fun to watch for a while.

P.S. - I'm glad he got rid of that frosted hair look from last year.  It looked like an old man wig.

I want to see a vid of Kuchar playing tennis. Didn't he play in the juniors?

Heck, post Phil Mickelson et al playing ping pong.

    • Thanks for the feedback. @StuM, we are a "club without real estate" so no facilities or pro. We have a membership of around 185 players and we only play together as a group at our tournaments, which are held at public access courses. A group of us setup the tournaments, collect the money and dole out the prizes.
    • In general, granting free relief anywhere on the course isn't recommended.  Similarly, when marking GUR, the VSGA and MAPGA generally don't mark areas that are well away from the intended playing lines, no matter how poor the conditions.  If you hit it far enough offline, you don't necessarily deserve free relief.  And you don't have to damage clubs, take unplayable relief, take the stroke, and drop the ball in a better spot.
    • If it's not broken don't fix it. If you want to add grooves to it just because of looks that's your choice of course. Grooves are cut into putter faces to reduce skid, the roll faced putter is designed to do the same thing. I'm no expert but it seems counter productive to add grooves to the roll face. Maybe you can have it sand-blasted or something to clean up the face. Take a look at Tigers putter, its beat to hell but he still uses it.
    • I get trying to limit relief to the fairway, but how many roots do you typically find in the fairway? Our local rule allows for relief from roots & rocks anywhere on the course (that is in play). My home course has quite a few 100 year old oaks that separate the fairways. Lift and move the ball no closer to the hole. None of us want to damage clubs.
    • Hello, I've been playing a Teardrop td17 F.C. putter for many years and love it. It still putts and feels as good or  better than any of the new putters I've tried and it's in excellent condition except the face has dings in it ever since I bought it used that kind of bother me. I was just wondering if it's possible to have some really shallow horizontal grooves milled into the face on a "roll face" putter. I think I would rather spend some money on it instead of trying to get used to a new putter.  Thanks
