I live in a part of the world where its exteremly hot and humid (i.e. you can break into a sweat, just standing in the sun for 5 minutes). As a result, most 18 hole courses here require you to use a cart (they don't want people collapsing out there!). I play one (maybe two) 18 hole rounds a month, practice (range+putting/chipping green) 2-3 times a week and on the rest of the weekend days, I go down to a couple of small 9 hole courses, none of which offers a cart. I currently have a staff bag, which is fine, when I have a cart, but it does me no good (and is bloody difficult to lug around) for two hours when I play 9 hole golf without a cart. Ideally, I'd like to have one bag, that I can both put on a cart (can comfortably carry 14 clubs) and that I can carry around when I need to (so not too heavy). Any suggestions?

I would say just buy a good carry (i.e., stand) bag and use that when you ride.  That is what I do.  I carry 99% of the time, and ride only during charity tournaments.  I carry 14 clubs + accessories and have no problem putting that on a cart.

I have to admit I am an exercise bulimic :-) (i.e., exercise nut, if you will).  Some people have commented that my carry bag is way too heavy for them even just moving from one part of the green to the other side.  But I have no problem carrying it for 18 holes or 36 holes on rare occasions when I am luck to be able to play that much.

I agree with Yukari, there are so many good lightweight stand bags out there. I recently purchased the Ogio Grom XX which weighs 7lbs without equipment and it is by no means the lightest bag out there. It has a 14 slot diamond club organizing system and plenty of features for accessories and such. Ping and Nike also make some great stand bags. Some of them as low as 4 or 5 lbs and will also easily fit 14 clubs.  Of course the more features you would like added onto the bag the more costly and weight you will add.

Another option you may want to pursue is a pull cart. Not the cheapest option, but it will definitely fit your current staff bag. They make them so they fold down so small now they are easily transported, as well as some nice features such as umbrella holders for some shade, drink holders and so on.

I hope this helps!

Thanks Mitch and Yakuri...the advice is much appreciated. I went and spent a bit of money on some wedges today so think I'll need to put the bag buy off till the next paycheck (and will need to manage with the staff bag till then!). Thanks again...will definitely give the stand bags a look (probably at the end of the month).

Right on, let me know what you end up going with! Love to hear about new equipment and how it works out! I just recieved the Ogio Mammoth travel bag yesterday and unboxed it! Been working so I havent had much time to go through it! Will probably post a review on that sometime!

Hey

Just thought I'd let you guys know...I finally ended up buying a  cart bag (see the link below). Got the bag in black...it fits all 14 clubs and most of stuff that was in my Staff bag is in the bag now...it weighs about 6 lbs, so while not as light as a lot of the stand bags, it's lighter than a lot of the cart bags out there (and deffinately lighter than my Hogan staff bag)...anyway enough about that...here's the link to the site, describing the bag:

  • 2 weeks later...

I would check out the new Sun Mountain Hybrid.  It's light enough to be a carry bag, but designed to be cart friendly also.

In my bag:

DRIVER: 905T w/ Fujikura E360 Shaft
3 Wood 906 F4 w/ Aldila Proto "By You"
Irons: MP 30 w/ Rifle 5.5 Wedges Oil Can 50*, Vokey SM 54* and 58*Putter: C-06

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
