NXT Tour vs Gamer V2

Gamer V2.  Theyre pretty much a tour ball at a budget price.

The Gamer. I've tried both, and the NXT doesn't resemble a decent ball. I've played proV1s, and I liked them, but the NXT is about the same performance as the gamer with a worse feel, and costs a lot more. If you're paying 30$ a dozen, just pay a bit more and get a tour ball. If not, go with the gamer. 

I have been playing the Callaway HX Diablo ball exclusively.  I bought that ball because it was supposed to be a decent distance ball (it is).  My Dad uses the Gamer V2 and swears by them.   He gave me a sleeve of them when we played together the weekend before Christmas.  I threw in my bag with the thought that I would try them someday.   Well, that someday was today..    I alternated holes with it and my Cally ball, just to be sure that any differences I noticed would not be because of the way I was playing.   I found that I got just as much distance out of the Gamer V2 as the Cally ball but had better response/control with it off my irons/wedges and putter.   Considering the performance I experienced and fact I can get the Gamer off of ebay for about half the price of the Cally ball, I now have a new favorite ball!    

I was playing the Bridgestone e6 but I wanted a better short game ball with good distance. I tried a sleeve of the NXT Tours and loved them. I have not played the Gamer V2 so I cannot comment on it. The NXT Tours have moderate spin with the short irons, a quality that gives me enough spin in the short game but doesn't kill my score off the tee. They don't zip backwards on the green with the wedges but always stop within 2 ft of the pitch mark. The feel is much softer than any distance ball but aren't spongey like the Pro V1's or Taylormade Penta's I've tried, they're somewhere in the middle. They are also pretty durable, I have played whole rounds with one ball and they show little wear. I won a bucket of 100 used ones of the 2010 model in "MINT" condition on eBay for $55. Upon inspection, 96 were actually mint and I'm very happy with my choice (can't beat 55 cents for a one time struck ball). I will re-evaluate my game and what I need in a ball when this bucket of 100 is done and make a similar purchase. While this ball is pretty good, I'm pretty sure I'll be purchasing a different make of 100 balls next time. Good luck in finding the ball that helps you improve the most.

The Gamer V2 is a great ball at a superb price point. 

I'm really glad I ran across this post.  Last year I switched from the Nike PD Soft (didn't like the ball flight on the new version of them) to the NXT Tour.  I really like the NXT Tour... good trajectory, good feel, lower spin than Pro Vs and they're pretty durable.  Only downfall is they are pricey at $30 a dozen.  I'm going to pick up a box of the Gamer V2's and give them a shot!  Only thing, I play in a few Am tournaments a year, so I'll obviously have to check the USGA rules and make sure I'm allowed to play them.  Anyone know the answer to that already?

 

I'll post my experience/thoughts after I have the chance to compare.

 

The Titleist NXT Tour S is a fantastic ball. Have not played the NXT, but the NXT Tour S is a phenomenal ball. $31/box.

 

 

Played the Gamer, the NXT Tour S is far better in my opinion.

 

 

Try a sleeve of each and decide for yourself.

I've written several reviews on this topic on several different sites. I'm stuck on the

Gamer V2, have been for a couple of years. I was a loyal Nxt tour user for quite some time. Test reports have shown that these two balls have almost identical characteristics

in all respects. Me personally? I like the feel of the Gamer off the clubface and the putter.

And shot for shot, I think I get a little more grab on the greens with the Gamer. You can really feel the ball compressing off the clubface with that satisfying little "thunk". Instead of the usual  "click".

 

I like 'em and for only 19.99 a carton, there is no other ball to use.

i personally think the Gamer v2 is a better ball.  better feel, better spin, better price.  and its always humorous when some tool playing DT SoLos asks me why anyone would ever play "RockFlites"...

I haven't tried the new NXT Tour or Tour S but have played the 2010 and 2011 versions.  The NXT Tour's are almost $1 more per ball and I don't think they play any better to warrant such a cost difference. 

Huge Gamer fan... Fits in the budget and preforms well. I never have a problem with them checking up on approach shots.

I have never liked the NXT balls in years past but I must say for 2012 they have come up with some great balls. You should get a sleeve of each and try them out. I have always played the Bridgestone or Srixon balls when I was not playing a good course or not hitting the ball good in place of my favorite ProV1. From now on it will be the NXT Tour S for me when not playing the ProV1.
