What is the purpose for bending the loft of clubs. I know it adjusts the launch angle, but is that the only reason?

Yes. But there could be a few reasons why you might want to adjust the launch angle. Perhaps you want to carry a strong 3-iron, or your lofts were never right from the factory, or via use they've changed a little.

what is the point of changing the loft of clubs a degree of two. you can do that at address with your hand position or by toeing it in or fanning it open, without any alterations to your clubs. you can and should check and adjust loft angles, especially on forged irons from time to time, but you cannot change the loft of your clubs. the face/sole angle is constant and cannot be changed.

Some people don't like the feel of the face closed, or open. They feel it's going to be a shank and have no confidence, therefore causing thin and fat shots by picking up their heads...

A lot of people (I'm not saying everyone) likes to just lay there club as it rests.
