I'm so excited for this!  I know it's not a big deal for most, however, I have only been playing golf is April of last year.  when I started I couldn't even hit the ball!  So a few swing lessons here and an aimpoint lesson there and viola!

Actually, it's much harder than that, but I can tell you that I know I've been close for some time only to end up at the end of the day with a 95.  I was hitting the ball well off the tee and off the fairway but I was not making ANY putts over 5 feet.  This is even after aimpoint.  I could not figure out the problem.

Then I went to buy a new putter and I started talking to the golf pro about them.  He told me that my odyssey mallet was face weighted and setup for a straight back straight through stroke.  He saw me putt a few times and said I was actually between straight back and through and arc style.  I bought a toe weighted putter and cut it down to 32 inches and BAM 5 one putts on the first 9 HOLES!  That was it.  The whole time! I would be six feet off the hole and straight putt and push or pull it but it never went in.

Anyway, I'm just really excited and had to tell you guys!  Now I shot a 42 on the front and a 47 on the back so I almost threw it away,  but I held on!  Now that I've seen that score there is not as much pressure on me.

Maybe you guys and talk about the first time you broke 90's!  It really can be exciting!

Congrats!!

Don't sell yourself short, you earned that 89 milestone through a lot of dedication and hard work, so kudos to you for a job well done.

I remember the first time I broke 90.  I had been playing steadily for about a year.  This is back in the day when Titleist Balatas were the "in" balls to play.  LOL.  There was an 18-hole course about 10 minutes from my house that I would play almost every Sunday and I was just starting to break 100 there.  One day, I went to play and per usual, I couldn't hit my driver that net more than 200 yards (hooks, slices and everything in between).  Sure, the ball probably traveled 220 to 230 yards, but when 20 - 30 yards of that is going sideways, it doesn't help you get any closer to the hole.  But, I was "el fuego" with my approach shots and I just kept nailing GIRs--back then, I didn't know what that was, I just knew that I had two putts to make par.  My putter was very steady too, so I was pretty satisfied at my round.  My bud, who took up the game the same time I did, was hitting the ball all over the place.  So, I didn't have time to add up the front 9 score because we were pressing to keep pace.  It wasn't until I left the 18th green and added up my score that I realized what I did.  84.  My bud couldn't believe my score.  And, not saying that there was any jealousy there, but he made me recount every shot on every hole to make sure my score was right.  Sure enough, it was correct.  I would've talked trash to him, but I think I was too shocked to say anything.  I just had this stupid grin that wouldn't go away.

Just think now, its gets harder from here, thats why i love this game. 89, 17 over par, bogie golf. Just think, now you got to work hard for those pars..

Congrats, keep up the great work..

Congratulations!!   I don't blame you for being psyched about that!!

Sunday, I shot my best ever score, an even 100.  That was a 53 on the front 9 and 47 on the back.   Prior to then, I had always been in the high 50's on the front 9 and mid 50's on the back, so both were personal bests for me so far.  I have set a goal of getting to where I am consistently shooting in the 90's this year.   I realize the 90's is not really a good score but I also realize I will get frustrated and never start shooting good scores if I set unrealistic goals for my first year.

I look forward to the day I can come on here and say I broke into the 80's..

Congratulations, man. I just started golfing 4 summers ago and have only played 18 holes about 10-15 times because it's cheaper to play the 9 hole courses in my area; and I've only broken 100 four times in those full rounds. I've shot in the low 40s multiple times and upper 30s a few times through 9 but have also shot well in to the 50s and 60s when I started out, so I know it's completely different playing the full round. I plan on playing full rounds a lot more this summer and would be ecstatic to break 90.

It's so awesome when you get the putter working and when you can break through a scoring barrier like that it is a great feeling.  I remember the first time I broke 90 I was thrilled for days about it.  Keep of the hard work and keep those scores falling.  Good job.

Congratulations!  I've been back to golf for less than a year after a ten year layoff and look forward to getting back to where you are.  Keep up the good work- make your next goal breaking 80 and keep working until you get there.

Thanks for the positive remarks guys!  Yeah man I'm still coming down off of the high!  I wound up with 14 putts on the front and 20 on the back for 34 putts, which I think is definately pretty good.  I had 5 one putts on the front too!!!! Very excited about it.  I'm also a little let down that this weekend the weather is going to be bad here.  I was looking forward to getting out and backing up my score!!!!

Nice job - I remember the first time I broke 90 last year (only done it a handful of times since) ... the putter simply has to be working.      Seems the days I score particularly well, I putt particularly well...  seems to be a correlation

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
