What did you learn from Bubba Watson as a person and as a golfer?

Each and every one of us have role models, people that we look up to and who we like to be.

There is an old saying that one should live ones life like a bamboo tree - the taller it gets the lower it bends - I see that it Bubba

Bubba is a breath of fresh air for the game of golf.  Bubba has shown such grace in light

of all the fame that has come his way.  I am very impresses by how he is handling himself.

I learned that the importance of staying  true to your friends, family and the fans.

I learned that one should give a deeper meaning to life and focus on the things that matter the most to you - family and friends come first

I learned that follow your heart and dreams and do the things that you love

I learned that smile at the world and the world will smile back at you

I learned that not to take things in life too seriously

I learned that there is no substitute for confidence - believe in your abilities and than go execute it

I learned that when you don't care about material thing - nothing dominates you

I learned that not to be afraid of showing emotions in public

Bubba I wish you all the success in the future and thank you for being an inspiration to many of us.

Phil, did you watch the Feherty interview. I think Bubba did a nice job trying to explain what happened. He should still be more careful but understanding his background does help explain a bit about the situation.

I don't know how most of the things in the OP's list apply to Watson.

The opposite in many cases.

He has a history of handling himself abominably.

He is certainly a nicer person than he seemed a couple of years ago, when he was regarded as one of the more unpleasant characters on tour but we all mature, don't we?

Let's just say he is a lot easier to cope with now.

I'd even go as far as to say he is good for the game.

Twelve months ago he was an embarrassment.

In the race of life, always back self-interest. At least you know it's trying.

Sadly, Bubba does not place family first. He is a devout christian. He places God first.

Are you trying to rip on Bubba for this? If so, you should get a clue. The fact that he's a devout christian and places God first in his life does not somehow translate into he doesn't put his family in the proper place, if you will. I'd say the opposite is likely true. Watch him interact with his wife or watch the Feherty interview, it's clear what family means to Bubba.

I didn't learn anything from Bubba. He puts his pants on one leg at a time like any other man. He is entertaining and I appreciate his candor but nothing is special about him. I am glad he has helped the OP out. I already knew he needed a carrot in front of his nose to win tourneys. His A.D.D. keeps him out of the winners circle more than anything.

I also learnt that you learn more about a golfer in adversity than you do in victory.

Bubba is a great winner and a poor loser.

To attribute saint like properties to him because he blubbers like a child whenever he wins is not a measure of him as a person.

Watch him when he's blaming everyone and everything except himself when things aren't going his way.

He loves his wife.

He loves his mother.

Wow...amazing.....

Well, TBH, I'd rip on anyone who puts a god ( who is still not proven to exist ) before their family.

yeah, i don't need to hear about jesus or anything else from a golfer. i don't watch golf for feel good stories about people i don't know and likely will never meet. not that i wish ill on him, i just don't care about his family dynamic or his excuses for acting an ass in france. i find it sad that we give pro athletes a pat on the back for doing what they're supposed to do, or rather not doing what they shouldn't. i am in the charles barkley school of philosophy with respect to athletes. you should be a role model for your kid, not bubba watson.

Which of course is your prerogative, but I think it's silly to act like because he puts God first in his life that his family somehow suffers.
